When used, it very rapidly fires bullets in a wide spread. It also has a 66% chance not to consume ammunition.

So, I am post golem planning to get fishron wings as a ranger and I am questioning if i need the chain gun or not? I already have a sniper and tactical shotgun with megashark, would it really be needed for cultist and fishron?

Base damage of Megashark- 25 Base damage of Chain gun- 31 I think the chain gun is quicker too so use that with clorophyte bullets and you'll be doing a lot of dps Then again, when you defeat the vortex pillar, you'll be upgrading to the vortex beater. Idk it's what you want to do

If you’re struggling with Fishron, Cultist, etc, I’d say get the chain gun. But the tactical shotty and megashark are good enough to kill them. Oh, and make sure to use either chlorophyte or crystal bullets, ichor if you got it.

The chain gun will not drop from the Santa nk1. It’s listed as around a 12% drop chance and I have killed at least 60 of them. I’m not sure if it’s a glitch or what but I can get the elf melter but never the chain gun

I'm trying to get the chain gun but I can't. I'm playing on a master mode world and I've killed about 6 santanks between about 4 frost moons. The santanks aren't even dropping relics so I suspect I'm missing something. Anyone know what's wrong?

The drop chance goes higher depending on the wave. Plus on Master mode, the drops act as if they were 5 waves higher.

Keep killing until you get one. It takes as many as it takes. Do your best to reach at least Wave 15. Drop rates for holiday moon minibosses increase the farther you get.

February 7, 2014 - Yeah, I did the math on this when the Chain Gun was first released, and if I remember correctly I found that the Rapid Chain Gun is better on targets with 0 defense, but on anything with about 36 defense or higher you're better off with S.D.M.G.. Since most hardmode enemies have at least 36 defense, this makes S.D.M.G.
