I'm hearing it suddenly everywhere. I understand the premise I think, but is it an app or a site or something? Also, do you pay to use it and what sort of characters are there? I'm a bit sheltered I suppose and could do with being updated with the new craze! lol thank you.

character ai and its clones should have never appealed to minors and should have been a alternative porn site
A simple straightforward question.
Do you still use character ai or you're using something else that's better than character ai in terms of memory, censorship, and roleplays.
Sorry for the rant, but I have to get it out lol
If you turn back to around April 2023, Character ai was heaven for people like me, no filters, no blockages anywhere.......then comes today, the state of character ai is appalling to say the least, the bots seem lobotomized lmao
It's just kinda annoying and sad to see cai becoming so family friendly, I mean, everyone knows what people want to do, why put on this facade....anyway, I found moemate just a couple days ago, It's been pretty good tbh, no filters on the free LLMs, which i would say are just a tad bit below the creativity of character ai, but i can get behind it. Then there's the premium LLMs and oof, they are absolutely crazy, nothing comes close to what claude has to offer.....I wasn't well versed with how to jailbreak claude but people in the discord helped me out a ton and it's been really good since then, I haven't looked back at cai and hopefully won't anytime soon :)
I just hope moemate stays like this and only becomes better. Hats off to the devs.
The user base of the C.ai subreddit is so clearly made up of people 13-17 y/o, which has started to get annoying. The posts there are so immature sometimes!
There's such a clear distinction between the J.ai and C.ai subreddit. And I don't even use J.ai THAT often, but I can appreciate that their user base is more tolerable most of the time.
The latest trend is everyone posting about 'abusive' bots, calling people who use them 'gooners' and worse. I am thankful this harassment is limited to the subreddit and there is no message/comment feature in-app.
Listen— if you dislike something, that is understandable. I typically don't engage with bots that have DD:DE themes, just because I make up my own dead-dovey plots with my own characters.
But a large segment of that subreddit is so self-righteous and holier-than-thou and it reeks of when I was in middle school and had a purity complex, lol.
& it's like: no, I am not trying to start a fight with a minor on the internet. (Though I'm not that much older, only 21.) But when I was a minor, I wasn't posting about my opinions and thinkpieces and call-outs about other peoples' content and why they need to be 'cancelled'. I was roleplaying on Amino or something.
"You're normalizing abuse." Go on AO3 for more than three seconds under any tag other than 'fluff'. I dare you. Not everyone wants to RP happy scenarios and that's fine. Oftentimes it's just a way of processing trauma. To say that anyone who enjoys nuanced dark media is 'normalizing abuse' is insaneeeee.
You watch shows with dark themes, yes? You read books with dark themes, yes? I would hope so. Otherwise you are actively avoiding over 90% of literature for the sake of not 'normalizing' bad behavior or whatever you think is happening.
The word normalize is so irritating at this point.
Live and let live. People on the Internet will do what they like anyway. You will be happier for it! I try not to be the grumpy 20 something but that last post got under my skin, I'm sorry. 😭 Sometimes I wish there was a subreddit for C.ai users who are adults.

It seems there are a few new articles about this on em360tech, financial times, techcrunch, etc. Here are some of the main points (some were known previously).
-
The company will not focus on artificial general intelligence and will work on Character AI as a consumer product. The company had a division between people who cared about the product and those who wanted cutting-edge models.
-
Creating new models is too costly for the non-major companies.
-
Erin Teague is joining as chief product designer. Was a Youtube exec and technical adviser for some google products like Gemini.
-
Character AI has 18 months of funds and will be looking for investors and other licensing arrangements. It's subscriptions make up a small percentage of users.
-
The people who left the company were mostly those who pre-trained models.
There are some positive takes here such as potential access to a larger context size due to the google partnership (and hopefully more people will weigh in): https://www.reddit.com/r/CharacterAI/comments/1fupgy6/guys_why_is_noone_talking_about_this/

So I write some embarrassing things with a K-pop idol ai and I wanted to know it’s encrypted and if I can delete it ?
