About two weeks ago, I bought a phone on Amazon. I decided to use up the offer of "create an Amazon credit card and get $150!". I was like "perfect, I'll save some money and pay the card right off!". Then I made the purchase, and then it turned out the Amazon card was somehow affiliated with Chase.
I went to my Amazon account, view statements, and it keeps sending a Chase log in popup.
I don't have anything at all with Chase. Did Amazon open a Chase account for me? Do I open a Chase account on my own and then transfer the Amazon credit card over?
I'm so completely lost. I don't even know if I have interest on it (I know it said before I opened the card but now I can't remember).
I've let two weeks pass by because school just started for me and it's been absolutely crazy, I've been either at work, school, sleeping, or doing homework.
This is getting very stressful especially because Amazon nor Chase provides a clear set of steps of what to do. I can't find any information on how to pay for the card online, if I don't have an account to begin with. any help is appreciated thanks
2 months ago I got approved for the Amazon credit card through chase, (signed up with Amazon) I never received a physical card in the mail. Now last night I got an email from chase saying my balance was DUE!!! I never once used the card! Okay, maybe it’s interest or it’s a fee or whatever. I’m trying to login to my account to view it but I don’t remember my login. Fine, but since I can’t login and I never got a physical card I cannot reset my password because it asks for card/account number. I can’t view either of those!!! Chase customer service was little help, and Amazon customer service straight up ignored me. I was told I need to contact chase with my address and they’ll send me a new card but I don’t live at that address anymore so I don’t know if they’ll even be able to send a new card. What do I do I’m freaking out here.
I got a random email from Amazon asking me to link my Chase account. Then I got to the explanation- apparently by linking them, I get to pay my credit card bill on Amazon. Yay?
But in exchange, Amazon gets a full list of all my Chase accounts, their balances, posted and pending transactions, and my statements?!?!
So basically Amazon is asking for full access to all of my financial information in exchange for... <checks notes> the ability to pay my bill on their site instead of Chase's? Seriously? WTF?
Am I missing something, or is Amazon seriously overstepping their bounds here?
-=EDIT=- Perhaps I was unclear. I assure you, this is a legitimate email from Amazon. I've checked the email headers in detail, and they check out. None of the links in the email point anywhere but actual Amazon.com URLs. And I can skip the links and go to Amazon.com and find my way to the page where they want me to link my account ON THEIR SITE, which is where I found all of the details about everything this would grant them. And just to be clear, as far as I can tell, linking the account would not let them actually do anything with my account, it just gives them a full listing of how much money I have in that bank and what I spend it on.
Either way, there's no way in hell I'm giving them that kind of access...
