That could be a direct subscription to OpenAI or another company, or it could be some API through another site. If you really want it for free there is a shit ton of institutional money in AI right now (this is slowing down because of the state of the stock market), which means that there are a lot of websites that have ChatGPT APIs that are free to use for the user.
