Honestly I view it as paying for a personal tutor or assistant. I'm paying a thousand bucks for each class and around $150 for textbooks. The $20 (or $25 in my area) a month comes out to be around 0.5% of my total costs per semester -- well worth it even as a broke student. More on reddit.com

As a student who’s not yet financially independent, I’ve been loving how much ChatGPT helps with my studies. Whether it’s writing assignments, brainstorming ideas for projects, or even just figuring out better ways to study, it’s been a lifesaver. That said, the $20/month price for the Plus plan, which is necessary to use GPT-4, feels kind of high—especially for students like me.
I totally get that advanced AI isn’t cheap, and I’m sure the price is fair for what it offers, but from a student’s perspective, $20 is a lot when we already have other costs like tuition, textbooks, etc. It would be great if there were more affordable options for students or some sort of discount.
For some families in non-developed regions, $20 can be the equivalent of a whole week’s living expenses! I get that they need to make money, but shouldn’t there be a more accessible option? Maybe regional pricing or student discounts? I think lots of people would be happy to pay something—just not $20/month.
Does anyone else feel the same way? Or are there any discounts or alternatives I might not know about? Would love to hear your thoughts!

I'm a university student who uses ChatGPT almost every day — for research, learning, writing, brainstorming, and sometimes even to understand things better than my textbooks.
But honestly, the $20/month price for ChatGPT Plus is really tough for students, especially in countries where currency exchange rates make it feel even more expensive.
