Title says it all
Definitely following this thread. I have yet to find anything comparable. It’s the depth of the Alex drawers that really set them apart. You can find a lot of drawers online but I’m seeing depths of like 15” or maybe 18”. I wouldn’t be comfortable setting a counter top on that with such a large gap in the back.
I got this one a few years back. Cabinet and drawers! Winsome Wood Halifax Storage/Organization, White https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07K9F7XYC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_D9J3Q64V96NM7RFF02SN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I just got a job and apartment 5 weeks ago and I need/want a new desk set up. I game some but want to also start getting more work done at an actual set up. The “ikea hack” would be like $250 for the countertop and $110x2 for the Alex drawers) which is more than I can spend at this very moment. Any suggestions?
I know this sub is for IKEA hacks, but I wasn't sure where else to turn. I am planning on doing a Karlby/Alex style desk. I have already decided I am going to go with a solid wood top such as this because the Karlby is veneer and I would prefer solid wood. I want to find something that is close to the Alex in size, but not necessarily IKEA brand. The nearest IKEA to me is over an hour away, it is closed, and shipping costs as much as the drawers themselves.
So has anybody found a solid alternative to the Alex drawers?
Sounds silly, but you could make one. If there’s a lumber merchant near you maybe swing down there and ask if they’ve anything appropriate.
Near enough anything in that rough size range will be the right height, as there are standard ergonomic heights. I'm tempted to do the same with some bisley filing cabinets / drawer towers.
