This PC is $1600, but it can be trimmed down to $1500 by reducing the amount of ram to 16gb. I chose the 5600X over the 3700X as the 5600X has much better single threaded performance, which is what programs like AutoCAD and SolidWorks prefer, they do not really take advantage of multicore the way fluid simulations or FEM does. Gaming performance of the 5600X is also benchmarked higher than the 3700X, and today’s games aren’t really equipped to take advantage of more than 6 cores yet anyway. If you prefer the 3700X for its 2 extra cores, just swap the CPUs, it’s a straight swap no other changes needed. Went with 32gb of 3200mhz ram as it’s decently fast, and 32gb is useful if you do a lot of work with CAD. You could probably get away with 16gb so save money here if needed. 1TB SSD for both boot and storage, this one is TLC NVME but has no dram, so you might want to spend $15 more on the Kingston A2000 instead. Chose a motherboard with strong VRMs since you mentioned possible OC down the line, and a 650w PSU to enable that. The RTX 2060 is a perfectly capable gaming GPU, even though the RTX 3060 is a much better card for about the same price but you can’t find that anywhere, if you manage to find one, great, just buy that instead. Finally, for case and cooling, I went with the P300A Mesh with 2 additional 140mm fans for the front. For some reason the 140mms are cheaper than 120mms. You might want a third of those as top exhaust to balance out the airflow. I didn’t include a cpu cooler as the stock one is fine, but if you’re gonna OC, you’ll want to upgrade later on. Don't buy Build Redux PCs u/Funniestpersonhere suggested, their PCs are terribly overpriced. The best bang for your buck would be this inexpensive Dell XPS: CAD $1400 for i7-11700 and RTX 3060 (link).

The advice from the previous thread applies. Your best bet is a local computer shop, which might not have an online web build interface. But should still be open to custom builds. Easy to check. Since you are in a big city that should be no problem. When I lived in Ottawa. I used RBC Computers (AKA ShopRBC). They are a great bunch of guys. I never had anything less than exemplary service. Having a local shop is the ideal situation IMO. You can just specify every component, and pay them a reasonable fee to put it all together and test it. I built a bunch of PC from parts previously, and when it goes smoothly it's great, but when you do have an issue it's hell to troubleshoot as an individual without spare parts to swap. Well worth it to have a shop do it for you. They have both the experience and the spare parts to quickly troubleshoot so you don't have too. I could never stress enough how important it is to support your local computer shop, because having moved to the middle of nowhere there is nothing I miss more, than a good local computer shop. Almost any other product are one offs. You buy it and it works or doesn't work, but building a PC is a bunch of interacting parts, that requires unique support. Support that is best delivered by a local shop. If you have one, support it. More on reddit.com
