I’m looking for recommendations of specific restaurant supply stores where I (not an industry person) can buy hardy, utilitarian kitchen tools — the kind actually used in professional kitchens.
Think metal mixing bowls, whisks, large serving & slotted spoons, conical fine-mesh sieves, steam baskets (like for dim sum) etc. I’m not interested in their “aesthetic” value, nor in paying extra for a celebrity’s imprimatur, but in dependable tools that last.
ETA: I’m in Logan Square, but anywhere in Chicago (or nearby suburbs) works for me! (Extra points if CTA-accessible.)
ETA#2: Thanks for all of the suggestions!!!
Thanks so much!
Hi, I'm going to be coming to Chicago and the US for the first time soon to start my PhD, and was wondering where people usually stock their kitchens for the first time, especially on a college student budget.
Is it worth it going to a restaurant supply store in the city? I don't really see any near Hyde park. Or are there any Chinese supermarkets nearby that stock cheap and reliable cooking equipment? I've heard good things about those. Otherwise, what do people use?
Also, as I've never lived in NA before, I'm not really sure what the cheapest places are to buy basics such as towels, hand soap, toilet paper, etc. Any suggestions on this? Thanks so much in advance for the help!
Boulder has the outstanding Peppercorn with every kitchen thing you can imagine. Is there an equivalent store in Denver? Not looking for overpriced Williams and Sonoma, but a solid independent kitchen/cooking store.
