Look for liquidation stores. IKEA (in Canada at least) is having a rug event 15% off. Facebook marketplace can be good too. I don't like spending a lot on rugs either because of my dog. Answer from mellysbellys on reddit.com

r/femalelivingspace on Reddit: Any advice for finding large rugs on the cheap?
February 24, 2019 -

I’ve been looking for an 8x10 rug but I can’t find any for less than $200. Any tips for what kind of sales to check for or places to look for used ones? My FB Marketplace isn’t offering much help sadly, and I’m not sure where else to go. Do big box stores ever have mega rug sales lol? I’m looking for your standard red oriental rug, if that helps at all. Thank you for any advice!!

I did happen to find a few options on Amazon but I’m looking for some bigger ones. I got one for 20 bucks that’s 5x9.

I’m just trying to cover the basement floor. It can literally any style color texture etc, just need big ones like 6x9- or bigger. I have a lot of area to cover.

I haven't had much luck looking for large rugs on FB and eBay - even gave the old Craigslist a try.

Not looking for artisanal level Persian rug quality but struggling to find decent ones that aren't overly expensive.

Where is a good place to find decent large rugs these days?

Edit: Thank you everyone! We ended up ordering a couple of rugs from Bed bath and beyond / Overstock.

What brands or stores or website to get the best quality rugs? I assume wool and/ or a wool cotton blend would be good materials to look for? How is RugsUSA? Also looking at Serena & Lilly. Ideally not looking to spend a fortune but willing to pay for better quality!

The vast majority of rugs should indeed be BIFL provided you take decent care of it and buy a quality rug from the start. There are several distributors online who sell really ratty, low quality rugs at prices believed to be too good to be true, and while the rug will last years and years and years… you’re better off shelling a few hundred more and getting something of higher quality made with better yarns, fibers, updated machines or tools, and better trade/labor practices. Websites off the top of my head that I would include in this low tier: nearly everything off Amazon and Target and Wayfair, RugsUSA, a good majority of Etsy sellers. There are some good Etsy rug sellers, but be wary and do your research. RugsUSA, in my opinion, peddles cheap crap, uses deceptive photos, and the return process is a pain in the ass. Avoid Ruggable… excessively overpriced. In the tier above that would be west elm, crate and barrel. I really do think IKEA has decent rugs if you’re willing to splurge beyond the basics. Serena and Lilly looks decent. I’ve had great pleasure shopping on Revival. I think they have a good mix of new pieces and vintage one of a kind. Try them out for sure. Rug trade is one of the oldest professions in the modern world. If you live in a major city, take the time to explore the area for great rug stores, traders, and vendors. They’ll have some amazing pieces that truly will last a lifetime. One last thing is to narrow down where the rug is going to go and what yarns or fibers it should contain. Natural fibers will feel better under your feet, but avoid linen and especially jute if it’s an indoor rug. Cannot stress enough to avoid any and all jute, hell I’d recommend avoiding it even for outdoor too. Feels like garbage. Synthetic fiber rugs with polypropylene or polyester will be at significantly cheaper price points, but IMO not that great of a rug.

Check out estate sales, Facebook marketplace, eBay, vintage shops. Brand new hand knotted 100% wool rugs are very expensive. I’ve found great rugs second hand and if they are wool a good rug cleaner can make them like new.

I have the world’s most echoey apartment, so I’m looking to invest in a couple of quality 11x11 ish area rugs.

Not looking to break the bank, but I also don’t want to go really cheap and regret my rugs.

Ikea doesn’t seem to have any cool looking options that are large enough.

Also it’d be nice to not shop online, so I can actually see and feel the rugs in person. Plus local business yayy.

So where did you buy your rugs, LA? Any good suggestions?

Hi all!

My HOA has a requirement for each home to be 85% covered by rugs. I'm struggling finding large rugs for cheap. Facebook market place is failing me, so I've come here.

An exception is Southeastern Salvage Home Emporium - huge mammoth size rugs for $100. I mean its really remarkable if anyone lives in Tenneessee and has been there. But I'm moving out of the state and don't want to pay for shipping something so huge.

Edit: I have now learned the word for huge rug is area rug.
