If you can stretch a few dollars, I'd encourage the Samson Q2u over a snowball. Better off-axis rejection due to it being a dynamic mic. USB and XLR so it can grow with your setup. Anecdotally more durable than the snowball too and easier on the ears. If you definitely cannot go over $50, consider shopping used. Answer from Mikzeroni on reddit.com

USB microphones have an interesting history. They started out as the only option for the early video chat applications. So at that time they did not have to be very good. And they were not very good. Even today, Most sound surprisingly bad, or are unreliable, or both. Especially if they are inexpensive. There are a few that work well though. Razer Seiren Mini. Almost all gaming accessory company microphones sound terrible, but through some stroke of luck, the Seiren Mini, a weird plastic pill shaped thing, actually sounds reasonable. It also might be their cheapest product. Neat Skyline is a very weird looking, almost podium microphone contraption. It also has no monitoring or anything and feels lightweight and cheap, and plosives can be an issue, but, it sound surprisingly good. One that almost fits in a $50 budget is the Samson Q2u, which is quickly becoming a default choice for cheap USB. It sounds very good, has direct headphone monitoring, and a normal XLR output in case you want to use it non-USB. Between the solid build quality and usability, these seem like the best "$50" USB mic today. Similar and also highly popular are the ATR2100 and AT2005 USB microphones, which also sound good, but they may be a bit more expensive. Same idea. A good dynamic microphone, USB and XLR, headphone monitoring. A couple others that seem usable: Samson C01U Mackie EM91CU There are not a ton of really good options in USB I can think of, although there maybe one or two others. The vast majority of USB mics are, frankly, weird and poorly thought out plastic toys, or significanlty more expensive, or both.
