Groceries in the city are insane right now and I would really appreciate some advice on where I should shop. I’m okay to go outside of the city, but I really want to find anywhere that has deals or anything cheaper!!
What are the best quality supermarkets around? As well as what are the best budget friendly supermarkets?
I am a student living downtown. Things can get pretty expensive. Does anyone know where I can get cheap groceries downtown without applying for a membership card?
Here's a few good rules I had when I lived alone and grocery shopped for myself:
-
If it's not on sale, you don't need it.
-
If you can find a non-brand name version of the same thing, you don't need it.
-
If it tastes bad, but is cheap, you need it.
-
If you don't need it, you don't need it (I'm actually serious about this one. Ask yourself and answer honestly every time you pick something up, "do I absolutely NEED this right now?" I've stopped friends and myself from buying the most ridiculous, money-wasting crap just by doing this)
I don't know what the grocery situation is like downtown since I finished up school and I'm back home and living with my parents again which is the best thing in the world, but you'll be surprised at how much you can save by shopping smart. I was able to spend under $30 on food a week easily and not have to eat like a hobo, which means I actually had a decent and nutritious (to a certain extent) meal every day.
Chinatown, it's cheap, fruits vegetables, meats, it has it all.
