Groceries in the city are insane right now and I would really appreciate some advice on where I should shop. I’m okay to go outside of the city, but I really want to find anywhere that has deals or anything cheaper!!
Because I just started a new job I am in payday limbo until the 25th, and have to make $50 last me for groceries as a single man working all but 2 days.
Where can i get the best bang for my buck in town? Also if you have cheap lunch ideas (no microwave at workplace). Or even basic meal ideas for just lasting until then, please tell me.
I have never had this little to work with and want to try to get there without sacrificing performance at my new job.
Thank you for your time.
Give the food bank a call. If I were I your position they'd be my first visit. I've given them hundreds of dollars over the years.
Eat well. Use the money for something else important.
Download flipp app and see all the sales flyer in Calgary. Walmart sales start on Thurs and the rest of the stores on Friday. It is hard to make suggestion without knowing your eating, shopping and cooking habit. You can go really cheap if you eat oatmeal, rice and beans but not sure you will/can eat/cook those food for 2 weeks.
Maybe give us some ideas on what kind of grocery budget you normally have and where you normally shop. I think superstore is generally the cheapest with decent produce and meat. Coop, walmart and safeway are all good if you pick up the sales.
Do you have any basic food (rice, pasta, tomato sauce, peanut butter, etc...) in your pantry? If you have some pantry staples, then the $50 should not be a problem to last for 2 weeks.
For cheap meals that are easy to prepare, I suggest making a huge pot of pasta sauce with a bit of ground beef and canned beans to stretch it out (like a chili pasta). Or if you are more advance in cooking, curry with rice would be my suggestion.
