r/NoStupidQuestions on Reddit: Anywhere I can test credit card/debit credit card online?
June 29, 2023 -

Credit card was declined online and I want to see if it's the particular site or if something else is going on. Anywhere I can test? I was thinking make an order on walmart and then cancel but idk if they'd ship it as soon as the charge went through or if I had to wait a while for them to make the charge.

r/personalfinance on Reddit: How to tell if credit card is active?
August 21, 2016 -

My personal bank who issued my credit card is closed today so I can't speak with anyone. They rendered it unusable due to unpaid bills. Well bills have been getting paid for the past few months (bank has actually been automatically taking them out on their behalf), so I want to know if I can use it again without actually trying to use it. I see websites that claim they can do this, but they need to my cc number. That seems shady to me. Thoughts?

Reliable way to check exactly what credit cards I have open?
March 9, 2025 - I honestly don't remember if I actually filled out the forms for all of them or only some of thm and I feel like with some CCs, they're just sending them to me even if I didn't fill out actual applications. I found out that some of them have maintenance fees or annual fees so I really wanna close down(cancel) all the accounts except the ones that I'm actively using. So what I really wanna do now is have a reliable way to check how many credit cards are currently open under my name and which specific cards so that I can monitor everything.

r/personalfinance on Reddit: How to see all credit cards opened in my name?
June 27, 2023 -

Hi I’m (24F), I was not taught much about budgeting and finance before. But I am learning through online means. I recently opened a HYSA with Capital One. I checked my credit report and it says I have over 2K in credit card debt but what I’m aware of is only a bit less than 700 dollars. How can I see all the credit cards that are opened in my name?

I also thought, maybe it’s the debt on a card that I am only an authorized user. But being an authorized user, am I responsible for this debt? I am thinking of calling the bank and having myself removed. Where can I go to see where I have credit lines opened?

Thank you so much.

June 21, 2021 -

Please excuse me, I haven’t gotten a new credit card in about 3 years.

Just received my CSR and US Bank Reserve today.

I remember back then you’d call the number on the sticker to activate. I see neither of these 2 cards have that. It just tells me to download their apps, and in the app I see my cards and credit limits, but I see no option to “activate” cards.

Does that mean it’s already activated? Is that how it is now? No more phone calls needed?

I just wanna make sure they work before I actually try using them. Thanks.

r/CreditCards on Reddit: How do I make sure a card is closed?
April 7, 2024 -

Everyone talks about how scummy Credit One is and it is true. My own ignorance ended up in me owning 2 of their credit cards in two years (they offered me one with better benefits and I thought it would UPDATE my current one like Capital One did).

Anyway, I have finally called and after some hard pushing from the representative, I got both of them closed. After not seeing any confirmation email, I called again, they said I should have gotten one. I thought that was a bit shady so I demanded verification of some sort, to which he sent some sort of balance statement saying “As of the date of this letter, your account is closed with a balance of $0.00.”

Now my question is, how else can I make sure this is closed? I don’t trust them at all. And also, the Credit One app/website where you manage your cards, what happens with that information? Is there a way to close and delete the log in?

Make an online account with the 3 major credit bureaus (experian, equifax, transunion). Place a free security freeze (not creditlock or a premium feature) on all 3 files until you’re ready to thaw before applying for new credit. When someone tries to open new credit you’ll be able to see the hard pull and get notifications for it if not frozen.

The best way to check your credit report is at annualcreditreport.com. That's the source data so it's not filtered through a commercial credit monitoring site. It used to only be available once a year (hence the name), but now you can pull all three reports for free each week. It's kind of a janky-looking site, but that's because it's government-mandated and nobody makes a profit on it; it's totally legit. It's a good idea to go to the three bureaus' websites and freeze (not lock) your credit. Just keep in mind that their customer-facing sites act as credit monitoring sites, meaning they show you their data calculated using a credit scoring metric and they try to mislead you about how credit works in order to sell you new accounts you don't necessarily need. At least Experian shows you a relevant FICO 8 score, but TransUnion and Equifax show irrelevant VantageScore 3.0 scores that almost zero banks use in their lending decisions. So the only reason to ever go to TU and EQ's websites is to freeze or unfreeze your credit. And they're required by law to let you do it for free, don't let them trick you into paying for a similar service that does the same thing.

I want to get a new Chase card but I know they’ve got that 5/24 rule. I’ve refinanced a student loan, bought a new house, and applied/opened a few cards in the last couple years but not sure if I’m above or below the 5/24. Is there somewhere I can confirm this info before applying?
