There's also a section near Arapahoe Road where you have to follow Jordan Road for a little be to get in and out of Cherry Creek State Park. I've ridden most of it but not in a single session. Not sure what you mean by altitude but from the reservoir you can head south to a trail along C-470. You can head west to Chatfield Reservoir then head back to REI on the Platte Trail. The loop is about 60 miles.
