I bought a Chicco next fit zip air for the extended rear facing feature to 50lbs. And my son doesn't gain weight so I thought he'd be able to rear face for a few more years. But he's getting tall and is now 40" but still weighs 35lbs. I guess I need to turn him around by the time he's 43'. He grew 4" between his third and fourth birthdays. Should I just turn him around now or wait a few months? He turned 4 in December so he has definitely been rear facing much longer than most children. Thanks
We were recently in a crash (thankfully with no injuries!) and are deciding what car seat to get to replace our Nextfit. Our child is almost 6, weighs barely 40lbs and is 43 inches.
I’m interested in the Chicco myfit because I want him to stay in a harness as long as possible, he’s quite small for his age. The Nextfit feels safer to me - but I know he will max out the 49 inch height limit and need a booster in a few years anyway.
I know all car seats pass the same safety standards, but is there anything to my feeling like he is much more protected in the Nextfit? Feeling a bit traumatized after the crash and thankful that he was so safe in this tank of a car seat…it feels wrong to now purchase a car seat that seems to provide less protection.
For context - we also have an almost 1 year old ready to transition out of her Keyfit into a Nextfit rear facing. And we have several grandparents in town that have car seats too so it’s a big car seat puzzle!
I wanted to get some opinions on turning the car seat. My daughter just turned 2, She is 27 lbs. I feel like it may be too early to turn her right now, but I was curious how you decided when to move your LO to front facing?
Just some info.. she is in a Chicco One-Fit. According to the guide:
Harness Mode - Rear-Facing 5-40 lbs
Harness Mode - Forward-Facing 25-65 lbs
She is a little lengthy at 33 inches, but still seems ok with leg room at the moment.
Thank you!
