I am very confused.
Also what are pleated, double pleated, and flat front trousers? And whats the difference?
And are formal trousers and dress trousers the same thing?

For those of you working professionals, have any of you ditched your slacks/dress pants completely and switched for chinos?
was it worth it? do you wish you went back? anyone went the opposite way (chinos to slacks)?
Id like to hear your stories!
I'm a 45M professional, that works in a casual work environment where the dress can range from a shirt and jeans (me 95% of the time) to suit and tie depending on what one is doing that day. I've always been lazy about what I wear and find I function much better when I dress nicely.
Turning over a new leaf I ordered a half dozen shirt and tie combos from Charles Tyrwhitt this week. Now I'm trying to figure out what kind of pants to pair with this. I like the fit of Bonobos jeans, should I look at their Chinos or their (or someone elses) dress pants?
I'm not looking a becoming a fashion model, just a clean professional look from a solid number of pants and shirts I can rotate through weekly. Thanks for any advice.
I've been swapping out most of my pants for cotton/polyester trousers from brands like Uniqlo, Lululemon, and Fabletics. I usually stick with a casual style (sweaters, t-shirts, jackets, and sneakers) and don't need formal attire 99% of the time.
With that said, am I breaking any style rules by pairing trousers with casual outfits? Should I consider switching to chinos for a more informal but stylish vibe? For example, how do you all feel about pairing black polyester trousers with a knit sweater and Air Force 1s?
I work in a corporate Sydney CBD office for a top 50 asx listed company and wear navy chinos with a button up suit shirt. I noticed that I'm the only male in my office that wears chinos, everyone else wears suit pants and a button up suit shirt (no ties or jackets). Do you think I would be regarded as dressing casual with my chinos? They are just so much more comfy compared to suit pants!!! Thoughts?
Perhaps this is a personal preference or I have not been buying expensive enough chinos, but I have never wore or seen a pair of chinos that truly looked great. Even outfits on models, I think would look better with dress pants, linen, or jeans.
Now there is no fine line between chinos and slacks/pants/trousers but I'm using the general definition that mall brand stores use. So for example, Banana Republic Chinos: https://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/category.do?cid=35878 vs Banana Republic Dress Pants: https://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/category.do?cid=1072457
It might be the way the cotton fabric wrinkles on chinos, most of the time chinos look sloppy compared to the clean lines of dress pants and uniformed wrinkles of linen. What do you all think?

Like the title says I am starting a new job in a management role with a food service division for a private hospital. The dress code says slacks for management. I am mixed on what slacks infers like Chino's, khakis or actual dress pants. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi,
Looking to dress a bit less casually for the office; would like to retain the mobility and resiliency to odor that Outlier garments provide.
What would be the best outlier replacement for dress slacks or chinos? While I like the overall look of the classic OGs, the lack of color variety makes me lean toward the 60/30 Chinos. Would someone mind lending me their opinion on the matter? Cost is somewhat irrelevant; would like to pair with tasteful blazers of matching colors. Thinking about picking up Black and Black Navy. Charcoal/olive are also under consideration.
Thanks!
For what it's worth, for full-business contexts I rely on Ministry of Supply instead of Outlier. Their stuff is neither as high-quality nor as expensive as Outlier, but it's plenty solid in my book and legitimately passes for traditional dress clothes under all but the closest inspection. I still have a roster of traditional suits, shirts and slacks for "board meeting" type situations, but I'd be comfortable wearing MoS to an interview or to court, as examples.
I can't speak to their Momentum Chinos specifically, as I've only tried their Velocity Suiting (which I quite like after a bit of tailoring to bring in the waist) and Kinetic pants. I also can't speak to long-term durability, nor can anybody because none of this stuff has been on the market for more than a few months. But I see no major reasons for concern in terms of construction or fabric, and have no reason to believe right now this stuff won't be durable.
I wear 60/30s and Futureworks, when I’m not wearing suits.
Our dress code is pretty conservative/formal, and I’ve gotten no complaints.
Never ever worn any before. But I see them constantly recommended. I also feel like I never saw people wear them a decade ago (now everyone apparently wears them).
I work at Woolies and wear black slacks.
Are chinos interchangable with slacks?
So I'm going to a client site next week and my manager asked me to wear slacks every day while I'm at the client site. In our office I wear chinos every day. I thought slacks were any, long pant that are not jeans? Is it a matter of fabric or color? Any guidance would be appreciated.
Hey everybody,
Today I bought my first pair of chinos. I grew up wearing jeans and never even considered having another type of pant. Until recently i got a cotton cargopant. I like it. It is comfortable and soft on the skin. It keeps me warm enough in winter but is much nicer in the summer than my jeans. I decided to slowly move away from jeans and get more alternatives, maybe even replace jeans fully. My plan was to maybe use cargopants for a more casual, rugged look and use chinos for both casual and smart looks. That brings me to my chinos. I bought my first set today and they are nice. When I got home i checked my fancy trousers (I don't have an actual dresspant because I never really need to go somewhere that fancy) and found out they are exactly the same materials. They are both made from 98% cotton and 2% elastane. Both of them have the four pocket flatfront design. They are from the same brand, but the ones i got today were called chino and the ones I already had were just sold as trousers. So what exactly is the difference?
Looking for recommendations on where to invest in some nice casual slacks and Chinos for when I go to the office. Especially for some gray, navy, olive colors.
Thanks in advance!
Lululemon abc trouser! I got a khaki, grey, and navy and that’s basically all I wear. I think they’re worth the price.
If you're in NYC, check out Frank Stella by the AMNH. Great stuff, not-awful prices, and you won't look like you're wearing athleisure pretending to be nice clothes
I am trying to update my wardrobe and have only ever worn jeans (Levi 511). I've had black and dark blue jeans which were versatile and could be worn with an untucked dress shirt for smart casual occasions.
When would chino pants be more appropriate / could anyone recommend good starter brands?
Which do you guys prefer to wear for a semi-formal event or want to look a bit sharper for a day out? Either paired with a shirt or polo, dress shoes or sneakers...
I've been wearing Industrie slim fit chinos and want to change it up a little either either trousers or another brands chinos.
I don't know where to look for trousers but was thinking MJ Bale or Uni Qlo for chinos? Want them to hug the butt and glutes nicely
Any suggestions are welcomed
