I liked his performance as captain America. great but not ground breaking.now that he stepped out of marvel territory what do you think? I personally found his performance in defending jacob, really good.i also saw an older movie of his,a Korean movie named snow piercer which was also good.he was one of the highlights in knives out as well .but the problem is that he is either in the middle of a star stuuded cast or he is overshadowed by better actors.what do you think about him?

I think he's improving. That said, there have been moments in his films, no matter how silly, where a real actor seemed to be peeking out, and not merely keeping up with those around him but momentarily outshining them. There's potential.

It is true that he's been having a bit of an underwhelming career lately (Materialists hasn't been released in my country yet, so I can't judge about that one), and that he mostly takes the lighter roles than the heavier roles. It seems like some people these days are doubting his competency as an actor.
But me personally, I truly believe Chris is the kind of actor that once he takes his role seriously, he indeed can show his ability very well.
And I think him in Snowpiercer(2013) is the best example. His performance there deserved more award-attention imo. I especially can't forget the scene where his character shares his personal confessions along with Song Kang-ho. This scene is just amazing.

Chris Evans can effectively play a douchebag - like in Sunshine, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and The Gray Man - and he also did an excellent job playing Captain America, one of fiction's biggest boy scouts. Someone who can convincingly portray both extremes is a competent actor.
