Can someone explain what this new option in Google Chrome means? (in simple terms, please)
It assigns a unique ID to the browser, the vagueness of their reasoning for this should be enough raise a red flag. DRM doesn't make it okay, it makes it worse. Anyone that is concerned about privacy should not be using Google anything, end of story. More on reddit.com

Chrome 74 removed the 'sound content setting' and 'new media controls' flags. FUCK Chrome 74. I want to mute…

Welcome to the new Google. Waste tons of time on visual gimmicks and bad design that looks straight out of MS Paint or a mobile app, while also slowly removing all the useful features with the excuse that they take up too much time to maintain (at a huge ultra-rich corporation, too). Expect more of it.

Chrome HDR effected by windows sdr content appearance slider

Just noticed the exact same thing. I cranked the slider to 100 to brighten up the desktop. Went and played an hdr video on YouTube and melted my eyes. Backed slider down to 50 and brightness lowered in the same video. I too thought this should not happen.

Changing Google Chrome's Content Privacy Settings
July 3, 2025 - Figure 11: Make it so you can view the content you purchase. Source: Google.com · Some websites, such as sites that offer web conferencing, may want to use your microphone and camera. That’s perfectly understandable, given the usage. But beware websites that you don’t know that want access. That’s why Chrome asks for your permission before granting access.

r/chrome on Reddit: "Additional content settings" not accessible
January 23, 2024 -

I was unable to properly view a website in chrome browser on laptop, but other browsers displayed the website. I fiddled for awhile and finally reset Chrome, but the problem persisted.

Developer tools indicated some issues, "Content Security Policy blocks inline execution of scripts and stylesheets" and "Content Security Policy of your site blocks some resources". So I searched and was led to believe this may be related to Settings > Privacy and security > Site Settings > Additional content settings.

The problem is when I click to show "Additional content settings", the vertical scrollbar jumps to the bottom and doesn't let me scroll down to see any settings. When I click to collapse "Additional content settings", the scrollbar reverts to its higher prior position and allows me to scroll down and see content below the collapsed section. Thus, I cannot access any settings in that section.

Any thoughts?

May 4, 2014 - While the chrome options documentation (the entry is well at the bottom of the page) only says it "assigns an unique ID which can be used by plugins in order to run protected content", I would assume it's also related to DRM.
