Hi,
I want to share my experience activating my CIBC Costco credit card as a non-CIBC client. Everyone's situation may differ, but I hope this helps as a reference.
Timeline based;
I received my credit card in the mail in 7 days (I'm in QC). I tried to activate it online, but got an error message. I called Customer Support and they told me to visit a CIBC branch.
At the CIBC branch, I showed two forms of ID. The staff completed their tasks and told me set up a PIN at the ATM to finalize the activation. I did.
I placed an order for Costco online, but an hour later got a "payment declined - Action Required" message.
Calling Customer Support again, I learned that the branch needed to contact the credit card department to finalize my setup in their system. This was because I don't have any other accounts with CIBC besides this new credit card. They asked me to return to the branch.
When I went back to the branch and explained what I was told by Customer Support, the staff seemed unaware they needed to make the call. After they were repeating the same steps from earlier in the day and contacting the credit card department, my card was finally ready to use.
The next day, I still faced issues adding my card to Apple Pay and updating my Alert preferences. Both the CIBC app and online platform showed error messages.
"We’ve encountered an unexpected error. Please try again later.{Result #0001}"-web
"We cannot complete this transaction. please contact customer support at 1-877-433-1902 for assistance(0011)" -apps
I called to Customer Support and they explained there was my security setting in their system, which they manually released the blocking.
7. After logging back into the app, I saw Apple Pay in my profile menu (it wasn't there before) and was able to update my Alert preferences.
I hope my experience with activating the CIBC Costco credit card helps anyone facing similar issues.
Hey folks,
Apologies if this has been asked already (I haven’t seen it). Has anyone had a Capital One Costco Mastercard and have had to transfer over to the CIBC Costco Mastercard as of today?
My current bank (Scotiabank) doesn’t recognize the new payee “CIBC Costco Mastercard”, and upon further reading, the Capital One website says we have to register for a CIBC account in order to continue to make payments for the credit card. Yet, when I try to register (with my Costco Mastercard credit card number), it says there’s an error.
tl;dr - Just wondering if there is anyone here in the same boat who has a Costco Capital One Mastercard but is not currently a CIBC banker.
Of course, I will be calling CIBC for help, but just thought it would be helpful to myself and others that might be experiencing a similar situation.
Any help would be appreciated :)
So my existing Capital One Costco MasterCard contactless pay stopped working 3 weeks ago. I called CIBC and they said they would send me a new CIBC Costco MasterCard. I get the new card in the mail yesterday. I look at the card and the accompanying documents and I realize that the replacement card is fully activated. Even the CIBC letter accompanying the card said:
"Please refer to the sticker on the enclosed card for activation instructions to get your card ready for use." [No sticker on the card.]. "if there is no sticker your card is activated and ready to use."
Is this normal for credit cards to be sent via Canada Post ie fully activated. All of the other credit cards I have received from other credit card issuers have a incremental phone, internet, or separate letter with Pin activation procedure for security purposes
I thought credit card companies added a separate activation step because so many credit cards were getting stolen out the mailbox.
Is this the new normal or is it just CIBC?
I just got our cards from Costco and there was a sticker on each one to activate them. They were definitely not activated until I did it today.
I had the same thing as you. My old card the tap wasn’t working so I requested a new one from CIBC. Arrived activated like yours.
