I was wondering why people use their cibc costco card to pay at the costco as the reward rate is just 1% in their store. For the gas it is a no brainer as you get 3% reward but only 1% in their store. Some mastercard card offer more than 1% reward

I don’t have another Mastercard. The only credit card type Costco takes is Mastercard. So for me, it’s debit or my Costco card. Yes I know I could get another card. I am happy with my number of credit cards as too many gets unwieldy. I’d rather get 1% back than nothing.

I mean, at Costco warehouse you get 1% cash back, but 1% is fairly common across cash back based credit cards. 2% gas cash back is also not something to write home about.

For an entry level card with no annual fee (since you’re paying the membership fee with or without the card) it’s probably up there as one of the better cards. The inshop cash back percentage is pretty weak however at Costco gas it is 3% and also if you dine out you also get 3% back. The only area that you’re really losing out on compared to higher tier Mastercards is a few extra points off at grocery stores and such with other higher cards offering anywhere between 2-4% but these cards typically require an additional annual fee. One thing new with this card compared to their Capital One card is that you’ve got mobile phone insurance on top of the extended warranty. I forget the exact terms but that’s also a nice bonus if people were aware of it. At the end of the day, a credit card has to meet your needs for it to be good. You can’t really just find the best card and assume that it’ll work out the same way as well. Look into other cards and even trying using their calculators to see which card would earn you the most as you use it.
