I have a Cibc Aeroplan Visa which states that there is a 2.5% foreign transaction fee, but when making purchases in America, the conversion rate posted to my account just shows the regular google exchange of $1.38. So where is this foreign fee of 2.5%?
When I compare it to my Amex which has no transaction fees, the difference is only a few cents difference.
Hi there,
I am going to visit NYC for the first time this summer (first time visiting the US for that matter). I am wondering what it will be like using my bank cards in the states. I am with CIBC and have a Dividend Visa Card, and an Advantage Debit Card.
In terms of transactions being done in the United States, will it just charge the USD amount onto my debit, or is there an additional fee for using my card in another country?
I hope this makes sense. Thanks!
So, it seems CIBC Costco Mastercard foreign conversion rates including fees are at par with leading credit card that claims to have no FX transaction fees. It turns out that although Costco Mastercard doesn’t say they do not charge forex transaction fee, the FX rates are the same as Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite Card. I have tested this in 3 countries, France, U.S. and India. Used same amounts on two cards at the same time. I am wondering how? Anyone had similar experiences?
