Cisco console cable pinout and color codes | Rotating USB Cable
March 14, 2026 - Cisco console cables typically utilize an RJ-45 to DB-9 configuration, allowing a direct connection from a computer’s serial port to Cisco devices. The most significant feature of this type of cable is its “rolled” wiring—an arrangement where the pinout on one end is reversed on the other. This design ensures that the corresponding pins connect correctly between the devices. The pinouts are crucial as each pin has a specific function. Below is a breakdown of the color-coded wiring scheme used in a standard RJ-45 to DB-9 console cable:

There isn't any color code, just the pinout for the 8p8c connection. On the blue console cables Pin 1 of the 8p8c is Black and the rest fall in line as it is just a flat silver satin cable with Aqua blue coloring. More on reddit.com
DIY Cisco RJ45 console cable?
No. The cable you linked is a USB to TTL cable. IIRC the Cisco rollover cable is akin to a null modem (i.e. the pinout on one end is reversed, hence the name "Rollover") RS-232 cable. You can hack a RJ45 cable (Google "Cisco Rollover cable pinout") and solder it to a DE-9 (again search for "serial port pinout") connector, then you'll need to get a USB to RS-232 adapter and plug your newly made cable into it More on reddit.com

No, there is no standard for serial console cables. A lot of vendors adopted Cisco's pinout for convenience, but you cannot count on it. More on reddit.com

Just wondering if anyone knows the pinout colour references on a Cisco 72-3383-01 cable?
I originally had it in a keystone jack but it snapped off so looking to re-punch.
I see the following colours:

Tried searching high and low for the pinouts but can't find anything to match these colours :(
Edit : Resolved

The common DE-9 to 8P8C adapters seem to follow a somewhat consistent color code. Cisco 8P8C console ports are similar to the Yost pinout. The wiring shown below works to go from a TIA-574 (PC) serial port, using a straight through patch cable. I find it much more convenient to carry just an adapter I can use with a standard patch cable than a whole cable for a specific use. 8P8C DE-9S 1 (RTS) blue — 8 (CTS) 2 (DTR) orange — 6 (DSR) 3 (TXD) black — 2 (RXD) 4 (GND) red — (n/c or GND) 5 (GND) green — 5 (GND) 6 (RXD) yellow — 3 (TXD) 7 (DSR) brown — 4 (DTR) 8 (CTS) gray — 7 (RTS)
