I got the citi premier card last month and was surprised when the annual fee showed up on my first statement. I thought most credit cards generally waived the fee for the first year and only started charging the second year you have the card.
I'm reading the fine print now and it doesn't say anything about this so maybe this is just a case of wrong assumptions but I wanted to ask here and just make sure. All my previous cards that had annual fees waived them in the first year. Does Citi not do this?

It is generally pretty clear when an AF is waived for the first year. I would also not say that most cards get their AF waived in the first year. The premier does not regularly waive the first year, yours was not waived. I recommend reading a little more before you apply for a card, if this concerns you a lot.

I thought most credit cards generally waived the fee for the first year No, that's incorrect. An annual fee is going to be waived if that's specifically stated as part of the SUB. Most SUBs currently available do not waive the annual fee.

I just called to cancel my Premier card since I don't want to pay my $95 annual fee. Account specialist said there is a promo - if you spend at least $1000/month for 3 consecutive months after the new annual cycle starts, they will credit $95 back and give 1000 TU points.
