April 27, 2023 - I'd say her works, stylistically, are relatively comparable to CPE Bach, being in the early Italian style of the classical period. ... CPE Bach and Boccherini! ... In high school I played an Arriaga quartet (the first of the trio of quartets), Spanish composer who only lived to the age of 19 but wrote some very nice quartets!

Composers of piano music in classical period
If “between Beethoven” means “before late-Beethoven” which was definitely romantic I’d throw in Hummel. Schubert is right on the line but I think most people stick to his more romantic stuff More on reddit.com

Seeking list of essential composers to become familiar with history of classical music
These are the most essential in my opinion. Obviously there are plenty of othres who are great and you should get to eventually. These are just the ones who I think truly defined their era. Early Baroque: Vivaldi, Corelli Late Baroque: Bach, Handel High Classical: Mozart, Haydn Late Classical: Beethoven, Schubert Early Romantic: Schumann, Berlioz, Chopin, Mendelssohn, (early) Wagner, (early) Liszt Middle Romantic: Brahms, Bruckner, Tchaikovsky, Rimsky Korsakov, Verdi, Dvorak, (late) Wagner, (late) Liszt Late Romantic: Mahler, Strauss, Sibelius, Shostakovich Modern: Debussy, Ravel, Stravinsky, Prokofiev More on reddit.com

Apparently, Schubert is the "last" Classical composer and Beethoven is the "first" Romantic composer..
I'm no musicologist, but these classifications are categories invented a posteriori by the learned, and in this case, I find Schubert as romantic as Beethoven, though in different ways. By the way, Bach never woke up wondering "as a Baroque composer, what should I write today?" Nor did Beethoven wake up wondering whether he was a classical composer or one of the first Romantics. These are categories invented to help mark out the history of art and ideas, but we shouldn't be prisoners of them when they don't work... More on reddit.com

March 30, 2022 - He was a friend and mentor of Mozart, tutor of Beethoven, and one of the most celebrated composers of his lifetime, and still considered to be at the top. Haydn’s work was crucial for the development of the sonata form. He also integrated the fugue into the classical style. His music is well known for its humor, most famously shown in the sudden loud chord in the Surprise Symphony. Haydn was born 18 years before Bach’s death, making the uncertainty of the late High Baroque period that resulted in the classical style his playing field.

Answer (1 of 3): Here I go again attempting to define “greatest” rather than composing or practicing — but I will have to offer Mozart as the obvious, if perhaps unsurprising or unrewarding, answer. “Greatest” is such a nasty word when applied to the arts.

Classical period (music) - Wikipedia
3 days ago - The sonata itself continued to be the principal form for solo and chamber music, while later in the Classical period, the string quartet became a prominent genre. The symphony form for orchestra was created in this period (this is popularly attributed to Joseph Haydn). The concerto grosso (a concerto for more than one musician), a very popular form in the Baroque era, began to be replaced by the solo concerto, featuring only one soloist. Composers began to place more importance on the particular soloist's ability to show off virtuoso skills, with challenging, fast scale and arpeggio runs.

Classical Music Composer Timeline—Renaissance to Present Day
August 20, 2024 - Classical music didn't die in the 20th century so much as reinvent itself. No one trend or style in particular dominates, and composers ranged from the relatively traditional, like Shostakovich and Schuman, to the outrageously experimental, like Karlheinz Stockhausen. Many composers followed the dominant artistic style of the period, from Impressionism to Futurism to Expressionism to Post-Modernism.
