July 14, 2023 -

It is significantly better than both GPT3 and even GPT4!

How?

Well, the obvious part is the context length but since that's trivial, I won't talk about that too much.

For me, the biggest issue I had with GPT 4 was the fact that it seems to have hard coded rules that prevent it from saying certain words or expressing certain tokens. This is typically carried out using a method known as logit bias where an additional parameter within the model architecture is manipulated to decrease the likelihood of it saying certain words.

For Claude, this is totally different. Instead of concentrating on "safety", Anthropic took a different approach and decided to maximize for helpfulness, honesty and most importantly - harmlessness, which is different to "safety".

For Claude, instead of limiting the model response by excluding certain tokens, it will disengage with harmful prompts by actively objecting to it and explaining why it's bad. It is less likely to say "As an AI, I cannot do X".

Rather if you ask it for instructions on how to synthesise a bomb for instance, it will say "I understand your interest, but cannot recommend unsafe or unethical actions. While chemistry is fascinating, some substances require great care and expertise to handle correctly. Perhaps we could explore a safer chemistry topic?"

To me, I think that is far more satisfying and acceptable than just being hit with a hard no, and Claude as a whole is a lot more sympathetic and understanding too which makes the experience of using it that much better.

The best way I can describe it is like speaking with an Apple customers service agent vs speaking with a Google one.

Apple will fix your complaint fast and make you feel bad for cursing being a dickhead over the phone, while Google just hangs up on you.

Hopefully Anthropic releases the API soon. Can't wait!

I have struggled to get useful results from Claude in a coding context. Perhaps it’s because I’m used to how GPT-4 responds, but there are two things I’ve noticed that annoy me: Compared to GPT-4, Claude doesn’t seem as successful at taking debug errors and correcting them. I find the reasoning, explanations, suggestions, and need to try multiple times to be far less in GPT-4. Claude really likes commenting around parts of code, even when explicitly told on multiple occasions in the same session to not do so. It’s incredibly frustrating for copy and paste workflows. To Claude’s credit, I am able to paste whole code files and documentation in a single prompt, which is far better than GPT-4. It is proof that a large context length and coding knowledge with supreme accuracy, once combined, will open incredible doors to users that don’t have coding skills but have an ambition to make something.

I have noticed this as well. It is as good in creative writing as "the golden age" ChatGPT. I am having a lot of fun right now and practice my English writing at the same time. Claude 2 does remind me of its harmlesness, but "for the sake of solving the mystery, " it is willing to take upon different roles and personalities, something that ChatGPT lately was refusing to do and constantly going back to his "As an AI model..." statement. Nothing NSFW, of course, but the outputs are still creative, and with more natural dialogs. Claude 2 is not afraid to improvise and ask questions on its own as well, it is so refreshing.

Is Claude 2 Pro worth it to help write a treatment?
Claude 2.1 gives breathtaking personal insights, I like it more than chatgpt for pattern recognition and cross-sectional references. It's more nuanced it seems, like the ideal counselor or personal life coach. I uploaded a bunch of astrological charts and reports, and it found recurring themes across all that hadn't been made clear by any human yet held up under review, pretty insightful. I'm going to upload the book my friend wrote and asked for me to read and review because it's too long and incredibly boring as it's currently written. With his permission of course. Shit like that I love using Claude for More on reddit.com

GPT-4 VS Claude 2 for real world users.
Gpt4 for creating text is where it’s at, everything from resumes to creative content to email replies etc I used it to threaten to sue a huge tech company and reply to their emails after a 13 month failure just outside warranty. Got me 30% off a replacement and was outstanding for legal letters Way way way better than 3.5, Claude or anything else I’ve used Gpt4 very much depends on your use but when it’s shit hot it’s mind blowing just how shit got it is. I ran my letters past a general counsel and he was blown away by how good they were for ai. More on reddit.com

My review of Claude’s new Code Interpreter, released under a very confusing name
September 9, 2025 - It surprised me though as Claude can sometimes use the existing analysis tool to help it in the creation of artifacts, as I noted here when I wrote about the Claudeception feature they added in June. I started by using the tool to explore the tool. Here’s my first transcript where I simply prompted the following to see what it could figure out about itself: Tell me everything you can about your shell and Python environments ... And the key details it returned, each of which I’ve verified as true by checking the displayed output of the relevant commands: OS: Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS (Noble) running on Linux kernel 4.4.0-
