Exactly as the title says. I noticed my usage limits have been higher than any Opus model has given me in the past. I remember with Opus 4.1 it started out good but then they slowly started reducing usage limits over time. I assume Anthropic wants users to thoroughly test the new model, thus why the limits are high right now. They will likely start slowly reducing it again to encourage people to pay for higher tiers.

I have the Pro tier at the moment and its been great.

I guess we didn't all learn the lesson.... Why are we still posting such posts!!??

Opus 4.5 has a lower cost to use then previous Opus models as per the API pricing. You could have the exact same quota dollar wise and you'll get significantly more usage.

The past few days I have yet to reach a limit warning using Claude Code with Sonnet. With Opus 4 I get the warning of 2 minutes of it thinking on a problem..

You need to measure efficiency instead. Opus consumes more, yes, but it also makes far fewer mistakes and requires far fewer revisions. I've switched to using Opus almost exclusively now, it just takes the entire experience to another level, even with the way it understands my massive instructions file and all my custom slash commands -- it just feels like working with a competent engineer moreso than Sonnet.

I use Opus only for planning and architecting. Otherwise I'm on Sonnet all day (max x5)

Reached limits rather quickly!

Context for my use case:

Started 2 separate chats selecting the same project with a knowledge base size at 14%.

On one chat, I was using Opus 4, Sonnet 4 on the other.

On both chats, I began the conversation by uploading a Google Doc with around 15000 words of text.

On the Opus 4 chat, I performed a “critique my draft” based task. I ran 3 queries before I reached limits.

Alongside, on the Sonnet 4 chat, I engaged in 2 web searches. This is when I reached the limits on the Opus 4 tab.

Question, did it only reach the Opus limit, or did it close you off from Sonnet as well? Just asking because I'm considering a subscription to Claude again (cancelled recently).

New model drops, everybody wants to try it....

Hey everyone,

I recently subscribed to Claude Pro and today I used Claude Opus 4.1 to create a portfolio website. It actually generated the whole site in one go, but right after that single prompt I got locked out for about 4.5–5 hours.

So now I’m wondering:

Is this lockout/usage limit only for Opus 4.1?

Or does it apply across other models too like Sonnet 4, Opus 4, Sonnet 3.7, Opus 3, Haiku 3.5, etc.?

What are the actual daily or weekly limits?

I mainly got Pro because I want to use Claude for learning LLMs, interview prep, and practicing coding by doing projects but I’m not sure how restricted I’ll be if I keep hitting limits like this.

Anyone else run into the same issue?

the Claude pro plan is not meant to be used with Opus. Sonnet is ok but also more like demonstrative usage. Its like a trial for claude code 5x and 20x pro plans.I have the 20x pro plan and get 4-5h Opus usage in a 5h session, very happy with it.

Opus will kill your usage in a flash. Sometimes 1 prompt will nuke your usage. You have more sonnet usage and I believe they are calculate separately however last night I ran out of opus 4.1 and seemingly sonnet 4 and the same time however in other cases I haven’t so that’s jus my thinking

Does GitHub copilot or cursor give more usage for price?

In my current workflow, I get one or two conversations with multiple turns going back and forth brainstorming or writing plans using https://github.com/obra/superpowers . Then I have to wait for the 5 hour session limit and can start again, usually implementing with Sonnet. I haven't used GitHub copilot or cursor, so I can't compare there.

On Claude code, usually two prompts eat up 70-80% of my 5 hour usage window and around 10% of weekly usage. Going against the grain though: it's the perfect amount for some users. Sonnet is so good that you really only need Opus for very difficult tasks that require critical thinking, and as a hobbyist getting ~20 prompts weekly out of Opus is actually a great pace for just building little apps or projects on your free time, and good value at ~80 prompts monthly (at around 50 cents/prompt I'll still get twice the value of what I pay) (For non-coding related tasks I just use API with 1hr caching. If you use it right it's very cheap.)A

I started using CC with sonnet 4.5 and never hit any limits and did continuos development but yesterday after just using 2-3 hours of Opus 4.5 but limit hit. Now I used it for 3 hours and my current session is already at 70% then I switched to Sonnet 4.5 and its increasing at the same rate and I'm about to hit limit before 5 hours complete. How does that even make any sense?

I'm at a startup and we used to share the CC Max plan at times and never hit limit, but since Opus 4.5 release I'm hitting limits for the first time. Anyone experiencing same issue?

Edit: Looking at the API cost i'm estimating Sonnet 4.0 will have the same limits as Sonnet 3.7 and Opus will be one fifth of that. Sonnet 3.7 and 4.0 have the same API cost and Opus 4.0 is five times that. That would mean "45 messages every 5 hours" for Sonnet and nine for Opus, as they're referring to it in their help center.

Let me know if you feel like that seems realistic.

What are they? I'm not able to find any info on that on their whole website. There's the old "45 messages every 5 hours" in the help center but that's the same as before and doesn't differentiate between Opus and Sonnet.

This feels a bit sketchy, i'm scared Opus limits will be abhorrent.

With only 4 prompts in a project with only 20% I hit the limits. It's reggretable, and I didn't find it better than Gemini pro or o3 in code either

I reached the limit after 4 messages and was locked out for 5 hours (tried Opus 4.0 with Thinking). This makes it unusable for my needs. Unfortunately, I think I will be deactivating my subscription...
