Well, I need a free claude api key for a core functionality in a personal project. Can anyone please guide me how to get one or if there is a shareable key.
. NET developer.
I am not sure if I can post this here. If not, please let me know, I shall remove this.
Thank you.
Ive searched this subreddit for answers and I’ve also asked Google, Copilot, and free Claude. I’m sure the answers are out there, so please forgive me that I can’t find them.
Hence I ask for your help. What’s the easiest way for a programming noob to use the Claude API? All I want initially is to ask questions via the API, similar to the subscription version. I want to use the API vs subscription because maybe it’ll be cheaper and I also just want experience with it.
I signed up for an account and have purchased API tokens. I have an API key. But I’m struggling finding concise directions on how to use it.
I’m familiar with the $20/month subscription and want to become familiar with the API as well.

I just paid for the Pro version of Claude. Downloaded Cursor and when I went to add the 'API key', it seems like I also need to pay for Anthropic?
I am a little confused. First time doing the Cursor IDE setup. I am a Rider dev.
I want to be able to use Cursor without any limitations. Not bragging but money is not a concern. I make enough as a Software Consultant to afford those memberships.
Also, I heard about bolt.new or something along those lines? I checked it out but it seems towards opinionated out-of-the-box frontend applications.
Any advice?
Thanks!!!
Firstly I apologize if my question seems... silly. However... Who knows, maybe someone will have a solution or a good suggestion.
Recently, I started interacting with Claude and I'm simply loving it! Claude's creative writing is awesome! I would love to have access to the API. However, every time I try to add funds, it continues to ask me for data about my "organization" — which I have none. That's when I searched on the Anthropic website and discovered that the "API is not intended for individual use". Is that it? Noooo! I don't want to accept this cruel sentence.
Do you all use the API under a organization/company? And we, poor individuals, are doomed to the OpenAI API only? 😭
I highly recommend using Claude 3 Opus from the API, especially if you just want to try it out. It’s not free but the API doesn’t require an upfront flat fee and doesn’t have rate limits etc!
There’s some options for desktop like TypingMind.
For iOS I wanted to suggest my app called Pal Chat that lets you use your own API Key to chat with Claude, and it’s completely free to download: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/pal-ai-chat-client/id6447545085
(The app also has no backend and takes absolutely no usage data. You can verify this by going to the app privacy report in iOS settings!)
I''m interested in obtaining a free API key for Claude AI or Chatgpt to experiment with its capabilities without incurring initial expenses.
If anyone knows of any free trials, community SDKs, or serverless reverse proxy methods that could help me access Claude AI or Chatgpt for free, I'd greatly appreciate the guidance
I use Claude pro 4-5 times a week for writing tasks. I usually finish around the time the limit's up. Would anyone know if I'll pay less then the monthly $20 if I use the API instead?
Edit: it seems the major opinion is the API will be cheaper. Would love some tips how or where to start my API journey
I wanted to share my iOS app that lets you chat with Claude 3! You use your own API key, and the app provides the chat interface.
This lets you try out Claude 3 without having to pay for Claude Pro!
Since the app is powered by your own API Key - that means there's no backend, and the app also supports on-device conversation history. This makes all your chats fully private and secure.
The app also offers API Key access to all the major LLMs like GPT-4 Turbo, Gemini Pro, Mistral Large etc.

I switched from GPT-4 to now mostly using Claude 3, but the daily message limits are annoying. Also, I really like the ChatGPT interface better. Claude is missing a features like a button to STOP when it’s streaming a long response that is bad.
I use this project to get my own front-end for Claude 3. It uses the API so I have no daily limit to messages, and I get to use a chat interface that has all the features ChatGPT has. Even if you’re not very technical, it’s easy to set up. https://github.com/allyourbot/hostedgpt
It supports both GPT-4 and Claude 3 so it lets you do really cool things like you’re having a conversation with one of them and you don’t like it’s response, you click the “re-generate” button and you can switch assistants mid-conversation. This animated gif demonstrates. The other day I asked it a technical question and switched assistants and finally got the right answer! https://p425.p0.n0.cdn.zight.com/items/ApuPWXb6/c413f8dc-519f-4f5f-b250-45a7688b99d1.gif
It’s also really nice to have access to both GPT-4 and Claude 3 without committing to $20 per month to either. I just get charged for what I use. For example, OpenAI released a new version of the GPT-4 model last week I’ve been going back to it to see how much they improved it. (I don’t have a well-formed opinion yet).
Every time someone comes here to say there's no bread in the bakery, a dozen people snidely and flippantly respond "BAKE."
I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO BAKE.
I'm paying for bread.
And now the patisserie doesn't even warn me when it's going to run out for HOURS.
I shouldn't have to pick up a whole new career to get something whose marketing TOLD me I could get it as a regular degular lover of cinnamon rolls.
"Just bake it yourself" feels so condescending and presumptive. We are not all bakers here, and if we need to be be bakers to use the product, then the bakery should tell the truth about that before taking our money.
It makes me so frustrated and sad.
(ok i assume i will be flogged now.)
Hey, I know it might be a strange question, but is there a way to use Claude 3 completely free? I mean some site that provides free (unlimited) access, or some sort of free API key? I’ve tried LmsysChat, but it doesn’t work for me anymore.
Application form is here: https://www.anthropic.com/contact-sales/for-student-builders
i freaking thought it was connected to the claude plus, BUT IT WAS PULLING FROM THE API AND IT WAS LIKE $5 FOR 2-3 QUERIES! DONT END UP LIKE ME OR WORSE, USE CLAUDE CODE THINKING IT WONT CHARGE YOU EXTRA!
Title. Basically i haven't tried to use Claude after the whole Poe thing awhile back and was wondering what the best ways to get a Claude api key or some other way to use it for SillyTavern after Poe stopped being officially supported? I have some characters that only really work well with Claude and not OAI or NovelAI that well, so any help would be appreciated!
Does anyone know how to get an API key? I would love to use Claude in my application. I am on the waitlist but it seems futile.
All.
Pretty much in the subject. I'm subscribed to Pro through iOS.
Firstly - I can't actually see that I'm subscribed to Pro when I log in to Anthropic Console. (It seems to think I have a Free account, despite same email as Apple Subscription).
Secondly - I can't therefore get an API key (which I need for some Langchain work).
I'm losing my sanity here...
Help! Please.
UPDATED: Thanks all for the sage comments re subscriptions through iOS. BUT - this doesn’t explain why the ‘Pro’ subscription isn’t then being recognised by Claude?? (It thinks I’m on Free even though I pay monthly (through Apple - though, no longer).
I used up my 500 fast requests in just under a week, and was considering buying more. For those that have hit this limit, what option did you choose? Did you stick with the slow requests? Or did you choose a different option altogether instead?
I'm a bit confused about how claude code work for payment. I've been logging in with my personal account and paying for credits but now I have an API key from my employer which I'd like to use. I also have a Claude Desktop subscription from my employer, but when I log in with that for Claude Code I'm still prompted to pay for my own credits and I don't see how to enter my API key.
I must be misunderstanding something - does anyone have any tips?
I'm making a web app on Visual code studio with Cline bot ai to help me. first i made a key on openrouter and i had to put money onto it. now my project is up to $30. i feel like there's a better way to do this. but i cannot figure out where i can sign up for monthly based api keys. is that possible? how do i proceed? i'm super confused and searches and asking ai are not helping me.
