That seems crazy and potentially they made an error. The cheapest api usage for Claude is .25 per m/tok in and 1.25/m token out (Claude 3 haiku). If that’s Claude 4 sonnet … it would be $3 per m/tok in and a whopping $15 per m/tok out. More on reddit.com

Can I use claude for free

I too use these. However, i've noticed that there are few days where the usage is high and for other days i don't use that much so for me the 20 usd felt high. What i now do is that i've setup openweb-ui on my system and added credits for api on claude and openai. This way i use it whenever i want and pay accordingly. Just for reference, my Claude api credits ran for 3 months even though i recharged for 5 usd only. So, in my case i find it useful. You should check it out and see if it fits your usecase. I just noticed atlassian (the JIRA company) released a Claude Code compete (saw from https://x.com/CodeByPoonam/status/1933402572129443914).

It actually gives me 20M tokens for free every single day! Judging from the output it's definitely running claude 4 - pretty much does everything Claude Code does. Can't believe this is real! Like.. what?? No way they can sustain this, right?

Thought it's worth sharing for those who can't afford Max plan like me.
