A business using teams plan can look at an individual employees usage and allocate additional usage if it fits within the project scope or timeline. Billing and account management is centralized. It doesn’t make sense if you have a couple of developers in your business. But if you were larger having that granularity in control of your Claude usage would be really valuable. Just got the Anthropic email about Claude Code now being available on Team plans, but the pricing has me scratching my head. They want $150/month per premium seat for Claude Code access. That’s a steep jump compared to the Max 5x plan I have, which gives me Claude Code for $100/month.
Here’s where it gets weird: Is this $150/seat whether you use Claude Code or not? Can you mix and match—add Claude Code to just some team members and leave others on standard seats? (If so, why not just buy a few Max plans and skip the team setup?)
And what’s the actual value for teams? The email talks about “seamless ideation to implementation” and “usage analytics,” but I’m not seeing how this justifies a 50% price hike per seat, especially for smaller teams or agencies.
Am I missing a key benefit here? Or is this just Anthropic trying to nudge everyone into higher-priced plans for features that used to be more flexible?
Would love to hear if anyone else has figured this out or sees a reason to upgrade. I am admittedly a slow learner.

Yes you can add premium seats for some users while leaving others on standard. As far as why do that when you could just buy max accounts for your super users? Two main reasons I see for my team: The premium users can still work in collaborative Projects with the standard users. Probably more importantly, there are data retention and privacy agreements within the Teams setup that are ‘better’ than the Max ones.

Hello, we are a small company with a development team of 20 people. We need to give our programmers access to Claude Code CLI. However, I've seen that it can be done in two ways: the Teams plan with a premium seat for $150 USD/month, or with personal plans for $25 USD/month.
For a small team of 20 people, the Personal Pro plans seem much more cost-effective. The difference of $2,500 USD/month ($30,000 USD/year) is very significant.
Does anyone have experience with this type of setup? Is it worth paying $150 USD per month? Is there a significant difference?

If your programmers actually use AI then you need the more expensive plan, they will cap their Calude Code usage within a couple hours of light usage. If they only use it as StackOverflow then it's probably fine. However, if you're only using it like StackOverflow you're also missing 99% of the usefulness.

So you have a development team of 20 people, and you believe that 150$ a month per dev is not worth it because it is expensive? If your devs use AI, then they should be able to produces at least 5x times of that 150$ worth. If they don't then I don't know what to say... even for things like code reviews, bug fixing, code mappings etc the tool is way more than 150$ worth. Whats next in order to cut expenses? cut their ram in half? Btw I cannot see how a developer can use the 25$ plan tbh, the limits are too small. Others suggested at using API credits and 25$ plan, maybe this way you can reduce your spending if devs are not using it as much, but am telling you if your devs are not using the full potential of the 150$ plan then they need some push or some training on using it more. Sorry for being harsh, with the above text but I am just trying to help you understand that if a developer is using the 25$ plan and he is ok, he is either: 1) not using AI thus less productive, 2) not working as much as he should, 3) I don't know what else but I find it very hard to believe that devs won't be using 150$ plan.

Anybody have any insights on this, it seems a bit of an oversight. We either pay $17 per month on individual plans for our team (massive accounting headaches) or we pay $20 for Team users, but without Claude Code we are stuck.

You might need to reach out. I think I remember seeing something about Claude code coming to teams plans later but online it does say that teams plans include everything from Pro. Because if it's not available yet, then they shouldn't be advertising it the way they do or have a disclaimer that it's in works with an ETA.
