Might be an iOS 16.0 issue, because it works on 16.1 Beta. But are you using the correct variable in the repeat loop close , not close ? Answer from Deleted User on reddit.com

r/shortcuts on Reddit: Has anyone worked with the Close Tab action for Safari?
September 25, 2022 -

I just saw this action recently. (Was it an iOS 16 addition?) I thought it could make a cool way to go through tabs in Safari to see if I want to save them or just close.

But it doesn’t seem to take an input in any way. As far as I can tell, it only works when you add the action, tap on the input in the action, and choose one tab from the list. But then if you ran the shortcut, that tab would close and then the shortcut would no longer have a selected tab to close so it would be pointless?

So far, I’ve tried using the find tabs action to select from a list and close the list of selected tabs, I’ve tried using a repeat with each loop to close each tab one at a time. I’ve tried using find tabs to just find 2 tabs and pass them directly to the close tab action, as well as doing the same find 2 tabs and a repeat with each loop to try to close them individually. I’ve verified that the passed variable is identified as a Tab.

All that ever happens is that each time the close tab action runs, it switches me to Safari and prompts with a list of all the tabs to pick one to close.

So frustrating. I can’t tell if I’m missing something or if this action just wasn’t made very useful at this point in time. Just curious if anyone else has had better results?

iOS: Faster way to close a single tab?
There’s no way to change that behavior. But, you can do it in one gesture — tap and hold the tabs button at the bottom right and swipe up to the “Close tab” option, then let go. You can do that all in one motion, don’t need to tap then release then tap the option. Once you get used to it it’s pretty much as fast. More on reddit.com

I recently switched from Chrome to Safari on iOS and the experience is much better.

One thing however Chrome made way better: closing a tab with a single gesture. You pull the tab down like if you want to refresh the page, and drag to the right - and the current tab is closed.

Is there something similar available for Safari, maybe with an extension? Currently I have to tap on the tab viewer on the bottom right and then on the (x) for the tab.

r/shortcuts on Reddit: Close Common Safari Tabs
October 14, 2022 -

Hello All,

I'm sure I'm not the only person who tends to have a ton of Safari tabs open on their phone from links in texts, emails, etc. I try to force touch to view previews but inevitably I end up with a ton of Google searches, Amazon links, Reddit posts, and so on.

Since Apple has recently added a "Close Tab" action for Safari, I decided to help myself out with closing my tabs. Yes I'm aware I can have them close by default after x amount of time but that doesn't work for me.

This shortcut provides the user with a list of the sites they visit most often, along with the option to enter a custom url (only "domain.com" - protocol not necessary).

The user selects the domain for which they'd like to clear out tabs for. Then the shortcut finds all all tabs in Safari and allows you to select which ones you want to close. Then the shortcut goes ahead and closes those tabs out.

I tried to keep it communicative through the process showing how many tabs you had to start and how many you closed, but that could probably be improved. One other recommendation might be to have all tabs selected by default but I found that I like to keep a good number of them open so it's faster to just select the ones that I want to close.

Hope this helps a few of ya - I hadn't seen anything like this yet.

Edit: I've added it to RoutineHub: https://routinehub.co/shortcut/20607/
