Not a big drinker but wife is out of town and looking to relax after a stressful few weeks. I have Chopin vodka and would like something simple and refreshing. I’ve never even had a martini before so I don’t know what those taste like.
I am running to the store later so ingredients aren’t an issue if I know what to get. I would prefer vodka forward and not overly fruit or sweet.

This is just to indulge my curiosity while I'm enjoying some late night Cosmopolitans.
So some weeks back I made a Milano, a vodka based Negroni. It got a... less than lukewarm response and one of the commenters told me that vodka isn't exactly liked in the more cocktails snobbish circles for being a tasteless, "trendy" alcohol to make cocktails with.
But it did left me wondering if there were any vodka based cocktails that get the pass on before mentioned criteria. I'd like to hear what everyone has to comment on the topic.
I'll allow flavoured vodkas too since Cosmo does require Citron Vodka ect ect.

Personally, I find vodka has absolutely nothing to contribute other than proof. I simply don’t understand the attraction to it other than using it for intoxication. But, as Margret Mead said, "Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else." So I’ll do me and you do you.

Honestly, I feel like for any cocktail that vodka could be used in, a different alcohol with flavor would be superior. Bloody Mary? Use tequila or gin and it's better. Espresso martini? Bourbon or rum. A white Russian? Why not rum?
