There are going to be a lot of opinions here, likely all are correct and this is just one opinion. Claude Sonnet 3.5 is the best LLM coding model out right now. How you use it, is up to you. CoPilot, Cursor, Cline or Roo are all active projects that integrate very well with it. For $20, you can pay for Cursor and you will immediately see the value but once you tap out your premium credits it starts to trail off on quality. Roo or Cline (VS Plugins) are both fantastic, each does things slightly different but you will use OpenRouter.ai and pay per use... which also can get expensive. The bigger your project becomes, the more you will consume. That's just the state of AI coding. It will get caught in loops, so focusing on the right prompts will help considerable. Roo/CLine/Cursor all have chat systems which can help you create better prompts. Using working memory by having the model update a readme with tasks, seems to help some. It's not perfect but when it works, especially in the beginning, it is pretty magical. Good luck! More on reddit.com

September 13, 2024Trying to use AI to write code is absolute misery. Is anyone actually being productive with this crap?
My company's founder is so believing of AI he refuses to hire additional devs to help me. We're a team of five, only two of us are engineers, but I'm the only one building our app and our other engineer does network automation work by himself. Looking to leave ASAP. AI has its place in the tech world but it should be treated like Stack Overflow and Google. No matter how good it is now, it is never an adequate substitute for a quality team of developers. I recently used WS2812 neopixels in a project. A mini office tower needed lighting at different location. Typically I would run individual LED or an LED strip. I discovered fastled as a library to control individual LEDs in a string. Three wires only required. I'm a resurrectionist not a programmer. I find code parts and stitch them together to create a finished project.

Yes i know, this has been probably asked here plenty of times, but i wanna ask this anyway since AI seems to change almost every day and i wanna ask for my specific case here.
So, i am working on multiple(mostly hobby-related) projects and some of them are pretty large. Those are written in C++ and i'm working with Visual Studio.
I was using ChatGPT o1 most of the time(not the pro version) and it wasn't too bad. However the more complex and deeper the code/problems go, the harder it is for o1 to give proper answers or it just fcks up things.
My question is now: What would you recommend for large projects?
A dream would be something that is at least as "good" as o1(or better) and which can access my entire project files aka the WHOLE code and provides answer based on it.
Money is of course a thing here, but 20$ per month is not an issue. However i regret paying 200$ for o1 pro without a way to try it before.
