I find the step by step with DataCamp really helpful. They break it down well. But I agree with the other post that the fill in the blank format and rigidity is frustrating. I found deleting the whole query and writing it from scratch helpful. I think, once you've got a decent grasp on the basics, StrataScratch is incredibly useful. More flexibility and thr questions come from interviews. Real world applicability. They also allow you to answer the questions in standard, postgres, and Python. Codecademy is fine for you to find out if you want to learn more SQL, go ahead and do it. Is it the best SQL course? Maybe not. You will probably read lots of opinions here with better ones. What it will show you, which is in my opinion priceless is whether you enjoy working with and structuring data. There are many use cases for SQL aside from querying but the vast majority of users today are data-literate professionals (developers, testers, data and business analysts, project and product manager who have some technical skills) who need more from their data than they are currently getting. For those needs, this is a good course. I took it 6 years ago when my own need arose and today I write SQL every day. I'm not a DBA or even a developer, but I am grateful for what I got out of the course. If you are looking to get into consulting, there is nothing wrong with learning SQL. I would however suggest that you not think of it as a competitive advantage. Plenty of people out there will also know SQL, and many of them will enjoy it. Try to figure out if you're among them first before you sign years of your professional life away. More on reddit.com

I've been doing Udemy, it really depends on what course you buy, mine, the guy teaches you how to install and configure your IDE, so you can program with him and do the exercises along the course. I have two monitors, so I watch the classes on one, and write code on the other one, it's pretty interactive and I've learned a bunch of stuff so far. More on reddit.com

Just wanted to know which of the aforementioned sites are better to learn about SQL and other languages like python, R etc. Have been swinging between Datacamp and Codeacademy to learn these languages but couldn't decide on one , need advice.
Edit: just started using Codeacademy as well , found out that it doesn't display the tables that i am working on like it does in DataCamp , you have to put the query to display the tables you are working with everytime you want to see the tables.

I haven’t used code academy but I can give you my experience with DataCamp. DataCamp teaches through fill in the blank which for me wasn’t helpful. A lot of the trainings just have you fill in what is missing without telling you why you are doing it. Also it will reject your answers unless they are exactly what it’s looking for. This frustrated me because with coding there is a ton of ways to go about solving a problem. Also DataCamp teaches postreSQL not sure if that makes a difference to you, but you did tag the post as MySQL so i thought you should know.

I am a college senior who is trying to hopefully break into consulting. Recently In an internship I got introduced to Microsoft access, and I loved it. I wanna learn SQL, because I think I would like it, and because it’s probably very useful and a competitive advantage. Has anyone ever tried Codecademy to learn SQL and is it any good for someone who has no experience in coding?

When I first started learning sql, I used code academy. Then I started working through the hacker rank challenges (which I truly failed at for awhile & found challenging at first). Then I started using it at work. Now I use it constantly at work & work as a data analyst. Idk if it’s the best course available but I learned the basics & it was either free or inexpensive (2017, I don’t remember much)

Hello to everyone reading!!!
My name is Andrew I am 19 years old student.
Considering to start learning code and now I am picking the platform to start and stick with it at least a month to learn the basics of the basics.
Googled many websites like Udemy/Youtube/DataCamp/CodeAcademy/Brilliant
Udemy - Offer various videos and courses about many topics and good quality, but you do not have an option to interact with the code at the real time. I am writing down all I learned and then use PyCharm
YouTube - The same as Udemy, but in my opinion offer more basics quality video but its free.
DataCamp - I tried the free version of it. Until now it was an entertaining experience, But the trial ended and now it's 25bucks a month. Its offer a real time practice about what you learn and have good UX.
CodeAcademy - Used the paid option in the past. Lasted for a month(I think it's a problem in me and not the website). Plenty courses and topics to learn. Giving a good practice about what you learn even sometimes I googled things.
Brilliant - The best UX experience until now. But it's more about logical thinkings and less really coding. Should I consider it like secondary source?? (And that coming with paid subscription)?
WHAT TO PICK??? (OR I AM TOO MUCH TRYHARD ABOUT IT?)

January 17, 2023 - For beginners, nothing beats Khan academy SQL course. Like this is for those who has zero knowledge about SQL. Then you can try Datacamp or dataquest. For me, Datacamp was really helpful after Khan academy course. But for a true beginner, i wouldn't suggest Datacamp.
