We have been loving our leased 24 Ariya. When we went to register the vehicle today we finally got the sticker shock, nearly $1000 in registration fees with the majority of that being the Specific Ownership Tax, which was approx $750. Calculated at 1.5% of 85% of the MSRP (~$57K).
Is this just a Colorado thing?
Granted, I think we got some really nice state incentives, as our lease was $199 with $0 down. But a one year registration of $1K is a sneaky way to get that money back.
I thought CA registration was high... Holy crap CO registration is ridiculous. They impose a specific ownership tax based on the MSRP of the year the vehicle was sold. With Tesla this is rather hard because they are constantly raising the prices.
Does anyone have any experience on this? How was your SOT calculated if you registered in CO?
I'm not looking forward to paying upwards of $1400 to register my "green vehicle". How does this incentivise people to buy a new EV when the god damn registration is so high.
