December 12, 2023Just watch the sci-fi comedy film Evolution (2001) and I must say it still holds up after all these years, the cast is pretty impressive, the CGI still holds up fantastically. Give it a go sometime.
Not sure if anyone will see this comment, but seeing this on the front page made my day. I worked at Tippett Studio as an art dept supervisor for the VFX on this film (as well as texture painting many of the creatures) and we all thought it would be bigger than it was. It was quite a disappointment when it didn't do that well at the BO. Phil was so animated making this film after being a secondary house on a couple of films, being the primary and the film being wholly a creature show was really up his alley. Marked in my head are so many times he performed the Wal-Mart bird shots, the Giant Amoeba at the end, etc. I still have a bunch of production sketches, storyboards and versions of scripts for this show. Great memories, great fun. edit: Here are some of the things I found in my garage from the show. I don't seem to have any design from the main creatures, and most of these are more production notes and boards, etc. The creatures would have been designed by Craig Hayes and Petey Koing (sculpting mostly by Pete too I think). February 6, 2016From 2001 - 2009 the following comedies were released: Old School, 40 year old virgin, Knocked Up, forgetting Sarah Marshall, Super Troopers, wedding crashers, Superbad, Anchorman, I love You Man, and Step Brothers. Since then, not many great comedies have been made. What happened ?
