Replacing the blue velvet sofa. Although pretty it's not comfortable for extended seat time.
Style is cheap mid century modern and I love colors.
For size reference the blue sofa is 50" width by 29" depth & height.
I just moved into a new apartment and I’m trying to figure out what kind of couch would work best for my living room. The space isn’t huge, so I’m looking for something modern, colorful, and with a nice design vibe. Ideally a two-seater that feels comfy but still has some support.
Would love to hear what styles you like or what’s worked for you in a smaller space.

I bought a IKEA leather sofa for the size but it is not comfortable to sit in for a long period of time. Looking for a new sofa that looks nice, fits in a small apartment and is comfy enough for 2 people to sit in. Thanks in advance !
I'm looking for a comfortable sectional under $2k that'll hold up well! The wall that the sectional will be against is 100 inches so many of the sectionals I've seen are too wide for my space. I'm also ok with a sofa with an ottoman. Any suggestions welcome, especially if you've had your sofa for awhile!
Hello,
I recently purchased my first home, a small 1-bedroom condo, and am working with very limited space. I have about 80 inches or less to work with, and I'd prefer the depth not be too excessive. Initially, I was considering a sectional, but every one I tried was quite uncomfortable, and the smaller sectionals didn't appeal to me. Currently, I'm leaning towards a loveseat.
I'm looking for something reasonably priced, yet I don't want a cheaply-made piece that will fall apart within a year. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Comfort is a top priority for me.
We’ve been trying to find a couch that comes apart or is small enough to fit through here but it’s been extremely difficult. Any ideas. Mentioned space it has to fit through
Moved into my first apartment and looking to get a new couch. My budget’s around $6,000 max but I’m mainly looking for something that’ll actually fit without making it hard for me to move around.
Minor problem though, the layout’s a bit weird. Long and narrow, with a heater in one corner. Normally not a problem except most sofas cramp up the place and I want some custom sizing. Hoping for a deeper seat if possible but not too bulky visually.
Would love to hear what vendors offer custom sizing within my price range, esp for weird layouts. Thanks
what is the most comfortable couch you have ever sat on? Does it also happen to be beautiful? And not messy looking? It's for a chic modern NYC apartment for a small ish wide open space in the main area of the apartment. can't have too high of a back as not up against a wall, but also can't be too low as not comfortable. Really prioritizing comfort here. It's replacing Mario Bellini sofa which is gorgeous but not comfortable at all, but hoping I can find something gorgeous and chic AND a dream to snuggle up on! Would be grateful for any ideas. Thanks so much!
I’ve been looking online all morning and I don’t see any couches worth getting.
I want a small couch for my loft. Just something that can fit 2-3 people and is cozy enough for me to sit in all day on my days off lol.
I checked Wayfair and IKEA and I just didn’t see anything with great reviews within that price range.
What small couches do y’all have?
I would be opened to used but I’m scared of bedbugs lol.
Hi all! I’m moving into a studio in a couple of months and need to figure out my sofa situation and would love some help/recommendations on where to buy.
1 option: buy a new one. I would feel comfortable with it being 72” or less since the studio isn’t the biggest but want it to be stylish, comfortable, and have the potential for guests to sleep on it. Need some recs on where to look (trying to avoid Wayfair - not a fan of their quality) and looking to spend around $900 for a perfect couch but would prefer ~$700 (would sell my current couch and hopefully make a couple hundred). I have a couple months so delivery time isn’t much of an issue.
2 option: buy new covers for my 3 Seater IKEA Kivik sofa and take the arms off (which would make it 71”). My current nightmare of a roommate has really done a number on the covers so I would prefer new ones. I found new saddle leather covers by Comfort Works for $489 which I love but i feel foolish for dropping close to $500 on covers. Also unsure if it would make sense to have a couch without arms.. feels silly honestly but would it be worse to create more waste?
TLDR: looking for recommendations on where to buy comfortable studio size couches // or whether to keep the current and update
I'm open to local furniture stores or online or chains (preferably quality that's at least ikea level).
Title says it though, like many people in Boston I have a small place in an older building. It needs to A) fit up here, B) be comfortable, and C) not be a futon. Budget is 1k-2k.
Anyone have anything like this they like?
A friend of mine is on the hunt for a small sofa that will fit into their space, and we'd appreciate any BIFL recommendations that would hold up well over time! Budget is up to $1500.
Her description below:
I’m in search of a couch for a small apartment (550sqft). I’ve been having trouble finding a sofa that’s relatively compact and can make it up the narrow stairs to my place, but that is still deep and comfy enough to curl up on.
I have a futon right now that fit up the stairs (77in long, 34in deep) and the scale is right for the room but it’s wildly uncomfortable. I could go up to 80” and would like something deeper.
A small couch with ottoman or even a loveseat would be ideal— potentially something modular so it’s easy to move? I also have pets, so washable or durable would be a plus.
Beggars can’t be choosers when it comes to style, but I love color.
I’d love recommendations, but also opinions on some of the trendier modern brands like Anabei. From a practical standpoint Anabei seemed perfect, because it’s lightweight, modular, and washable, but I’m skeptical.
Thank you for reading!
Hello! Can you recommend couches for small spaces that are comfortable and affordable? Pet friendly as well. Or is a love seat plus a chair a better option? The space is 10x12 with one wall taken up by a sliding door.
Thanks.
I’m in the same predicament. I think I’m going with an oversized loveseat like the cloud ones and a matching chair, also oversized cloud, with an ottoman. The ottoman comes with the couch or chair and you can order extra. It’s an off brand on Amazon but the cushion covers come off so they came be washed, that was the main thing I was looking for too cause I have 2 dogs. I think I’m going with a dark green. They are also only a few hundred bucks, so I think it’s a good deal.
A loveseat & an accent chair are probably your best bet to outfit a room that size without making it feel overcrowded.
Try to stick with a minimalistic design for the loveseat to maximize seating space & make the room feel more spacious.
I'm currently renting a home with a similar sized living room, but probably a far more awkward layout. I have a very slim 3-seater "sofa" & matching single chair.
(It's not really a sofa. It's more like office furniture. Wood & fake leather, lightweight, minimalistic design, low weight bearing, not comfy to lay on at all. I bought the set while living in an Asian country where apartments & people are very small, but built-in hidden storage is amazing.)
This furniture set only has 1 way of working in my living room. If the 3-seater were just 5-6 inches smaller in width, I'd have a couple more options to arrange my furniture and it wouldn't look/feel so crammed.
I sometimes swap out the single chair with a small round accent chair that spins all the way around. (It's helpful when we have a guest over or want to watch movies or play video games.) The round chair is an antique I bought for $20 on Craigslist. It's upholstered & cushioned, has a back that runs around about ⅓ the way around the seat, but no arms. Despite taking up about as much space as the single chair... the round frame, no arms, & ability to swivel makes it "feel" like there's a lot more space. It's very convenient for the person sitting in the chair bc they can turn to face the TV or sofa, have easier access to the end table, and can stand up & walk around a lot easier.
Maybe you could find 1-2 comfy accent chairs that swivel? Or if you have the space, pair a loveseat with a "chair & a half?"
I’m helping a friend track down a high-quality small sofa that’ll suit a tight living space and hold up long-term. She’s in a 550 sqft apartment with narrow stairs, so delivery and fit are both big factors. Her budget is up to $1500, and she’s hoping for something that’s compact but still cozy enough to curl up on—ideally with a bit more depth than the futon she’s currently using (77”L x 34”D).
She’s open to a loveseat, small couch with ottoman, or a modular setup that can be carried in pieces. Bonus points for options that are pet-friendly, have washable covers, or are generally tough enough to stand up to some wear and tear.
While style isn't the top priority, she loves color, so vibrant or unique upholstery options would be a nice perk.
She’s curious about some of the newer modern brands out there like Anabei—it seems like a solid fit since it’s modular and washable, but she’s unsure about longevity or comfort. Anyone have experience with it or similar companies?
We’d really appreciate BIFL-style recommendations, especially those that combine comfort, durability, and practicality for small apartments.
Thanks so much in advance!
hello everyone!! i am in the market for a sofa/couch that would reasonably seat 2 people with some space in between, in pretty much any color, that is actually comfortable. something you don’t feel like you sit down and are surprised there is no give.
my budget is $8-900! no chaise preference!!
any ideas?
edit: in an ideal world, it would be new. i’m real anxious about bedbugs so the likeliness of me finding a couch secondhand is very slim!
I just moved into a new apartment and am in need of a couch, really a sectional ideally L shaped. The issue that I’m finding is that a lot of the couches that I’d want are
Way too expensive (1.5k+)
Have to fit inside the apartment, we live on the second story through a narrow hallway and stairwell so this is an issue. Space inside the actual unit isn’t an issue
I’ve never bought a couch before and am unsure what’s reputable.
I’ve been looking at wayfair ikea and others but haven’t bought anything yet, so any recommendations??
Thanks in advance!
======== EDIT ======== Going to start looking through all of the replies soon to make a decision. Thanks so much for the help!!! Super appreciated.
Hey Guys!
So I have moved into my new apartment and do not have much furniture. I am doing what other redditors suggested, getting few stuff at a time. Right now I am looking for sofa/couch/comfy seating alternatives for my living room. I am on 3rd floor and getting any heavy furniture would be very problematic.
Any links and ideas would be welcome! Thanks!
PS- Thank you guys for the suggestion. You are all awesome!
Just moved into an apartment in the top floor of a 1900 house in the and am in desperate need of a new couch. Only problem is the hallways/staircases aren’t the biggest (28” at points) and as far as I can tell nearly any couch that ships assembled won’t fit into the unit.
Anyone found themselves in a similar predicament and found a decent quality sofa that they got into their place? Obviously I know Ikea/Wayfair could be options but looking for something a bit higher quality (see: comfortable) at this stage in my life. Max. around $4K would be ideal but if something is BIFL that can be flexible.
The Genius by Must and the Cozey are high on the list for options, and the look of Article’s, like the sven, are great but I’ve heard mix reviews on their quality.
Mods, feel free to delete but figured there might be some Ottawa-specific options / other folks in converted apartments might be going through a similar thing.
TL;DR: looking for a decent couch (better than Ikea), that ships disassembled/in boxes, that will fit up my tiny hallway🙏
Hi folks, I'm looking for advice on purchasing a small (3-4 seat) sectional that would be comfy and durable. I'm hoping to find something with cushion that would last. Previous couches I've bought - the cushion wears out (becomes flat) within a year or two.
My budget is around $2k. I'm not sure if that's unreasonably low for this. If there are options that are way beyond that price range, I'd like to know as well, so maybe I can save for it in the future.
I live in the Boston/ NE area. Online options could work too.
