Hire someone to build you something on Wordpress. Lowest recurring costs - only hosting. Might have to pay to get it started, and to make any updates when needed. More expensive option - Bubble.io or maybe even just make an app in Glide. Answer from michael_firewalker on reddit.com

What is a website builder?
website builder, also known as website creator or website maker, is a special kind of content management system (CMS). While traditional content management systems were designed to administer large websites, website builders were designed with smaller website projects in mind. This means the user doesn’t require any special programming skills or other technical knowledge, such as knowing how to install a CMS, apply a template or create a database.

16 Best Website Builders in 2025 – Discover Your Ideal Platform
What Is a Website Builder?

A website builder is a service that lets you create a website, typically using software featuring a simple, drag-and-drop interface for positioning text, images, and videos. But why would you need one? On a personal level, you wouldn't want to send prospective employers to your Facebook page, so a website makes more sense as an online, customized resume. On a business level, you can quickly spin up a site to focus on sales. Another reason worth considering, for both personal and business purposes, is that building your own site means endless design choices. You have total control over the products and services you sell (and how they're delivered, too).

Furthermore, having a dedicated, real site makes a business appear more authoritative and trustworthy than a Facebook presence can on its own (though you should also consider those services as part of your online presence). It's as much an opening ante in the business world as having a business card for your company.

Freelancers: How do you compare with the website builders currently out?

I am a freelancer who will use these sites if it is appropriate for the client. Whole they may seem simple to us, they are still intimidating to the average business owner.

My clients are happy to pay me to deal with it. If they seem technically inclined, I will coach them in how to do it themselves. This may take some hours, and they pay me for those hours. If they are not technically competent, they just pay me to do their maintenance.

I choose these technologies for clients when their site is really small and/or their budget is really small.

The kind of things that most business owners cannot 'just do' and therefore pay me to do, even on sites as simple as these, include

  • select the best photos from their users point of view

  • review /edit / re arrange their text so it looks more web friendly

  • crop, edit and resize the photos

  • see where alignment is needed on a page and apply it

  • write even half way decent SEO tags and descriptions for each page

  • lay out a page so that is visually appealing

  • create white space instead of cramming content everywhere

  • control themselves from going too far when they discover the power trip of changing text colors

  • understand how critical consistency of fonts is

  • ditto headers

  • ditto footers

  • ditto sidebars

Wix did not steal my business, they increased it. They enabled me to build small sites faster than I ever could before and allowed me to take on clients with smaller budgets than I could before.

Website builders that don't suck?

A website builder is just a tool. Wix isn't a website builder but it uses one to allow you to make your website. All website builders are terrible and fill your pages with mostly unneeded code.

Use wordpress. Don't use wordpress.com because it's very limited. You should buy a shared hosting account and a domain name (approx $100). Most shared hosting accounts have a wordpress installer. Once you install wordpress you can make any change you want.

Many people use website builders with wordpress but try avoid them if you can, you can create nice blog pages with minimal knowledge.
