Will I still be able to declare a computer science major, If I get a D in data structures or discrete structures, because I know in like comp arch, I need at least a C in 112 DS to take it. And I only saw this (Quote is below). But I saw that you are allowed only one 1 D, will I be able to use that D to overide and take comp arc and be able to declare my comp sci major.

According to this, https://www.cs.rutgers.edu/academics/undergraduate/admission-to-the-major , you will need a grade of C or higher in all five prerequisites classes to declare the CS major. This is also backed up by degree navigator, You must achieve a minimum grade of C for {01:198:111, 01:198:112, 01:198:205, 01:640:151, 01:640:152}.

No you can’t declare with a D and you can’t fulfill any pre requisites with a D. The 1 D requirement would only work for courses that aren’t a pre requisite for another course you would plan on taking in the future. For example if you got a D in linear algebra, you really don’t need any other cs major class that needs linear algebra as a pre requisite. Only maybe a few cs electives you can’t take. But for Data structures, it’s a pre req for Comp Arch and that’s a major related class so you can’t use the 1 D for data structures.

I am coming in with lot of AP credit but unfortunately I got 4 on AP comp sc so I have to take Intro to CS instead starting with Data Structures. How many semesters I would need minimum to complete cs requirements ? If I take 2 each semester starting next semester I would need at least 7 semester. I could easily graduate in 3 years but for the cs courses. Any advice on how to cut 1 semester.

Well, for the BA there’s 6 required CS classes, 5 electives, and 3 math classes, so thats 14 classes, which can easily be done in 7 semesters if you take only 2 CS Major classes per semester. So yes it is very easily doable to finish all your major classes in 3 years (especially if you AP’d out of Calc 1 and/or 2). If you want the BS, then that’s 2 more CS electives and 2 science classes, so 18 classes total. Also doable in 3 years but would be more annoying.
