Hello! I need help with the Ti-84 calculator. โConstruct a 99% confidence interval for the population mean, ฮผ. Assume the population has a normal distribution. [AP Statistics] - How to calculate a confidence interval with no standard deviation?
The margin of error is the distance from the point estimate to the upper and lower bounds of the confidence interval. In this case, the proportion is 59% and the margin of error is +/- 3 percentage points. 59 - 3 = 56, which is greater than 55%. Thus we can say with 95% confidence that the true population proportion is different from 55%. You don't need the SD because the margin of error is calculated for you. If the margin of error overlapped 55%, you couldn't conclude that it's significantly different. Since it does not include 55%, we are 95% confident that 59% is significantly different. December 18, 2023 - Fill in the sample size (n), the sample mean (\(\bar{x}\)), the sample standard deviation (s), and the confidence level (CL). Write the confidence level as a decimal. For example, for a 95% confidence level, enter 0.95 for CL. Then hit Calculate and assuming the population is normally distributed, the confidence interval will be calculated for you.

But how accurate is the standard deviation? Just by chance you may have happened to obtain data that are closely bunched together, making the SD low. Or you may have happened to obtain data that are far more scattered than the overall population, making the SD high.If you assume that your data are randomly sampled from a population that follows a Gaussian distribution, This calculator can compute a 95% confidence interval for the standard deviation.

For example, suppose you work for the Department of Natural Resources and you want to estimate, with 95 percent confidence, the mean (average) length of all walleye fingerlings in a fish hatchery pond. You take a random sample of 10 fingerlings and determine that the average length is 7.5 inches and the sample standard deviation is 2.3 inches. Because you want a 95 percent confidence interval, you determine your t*-value as follows:
