What's conky?
Conky is an application that creates on-screen overlays of text or graphical information based upon a user-definable configuration file. It can be set to display only on your desktop, or over the top of your active window, can draw images and graphs and text, and will automatically update with live information. It can draw system information like temperature, disk utilisation, grab weather data, or possibly even display your most recent desktop notifications. It all depends on how you configure it, and there are plenty of templates and tools to let you do just that. More on reddit.com

I recommend you install it!! Seriously though, if you want to start using conky just find a simple one to start off with, install and start customizing it from there. It's the best way to learn it.
