Consumer Reports - Best vacuums of 2025 list has two bagged vacuums
yeah, surprised they didnt include the miele c1 turbo team, much cheaper than the c3 marin (around $400 to $500), still bagged, hepa compatible and works great on hard floors and carpets. also sebo vacuums like the felix or e1 kombi are often overlooked in mainstream lists but are some of the best in build quality and filtration. Consumer Reports Reviews of Vacuum Cleaners
No one likes Shark for several reasons. One being that bagless vacuums are just inferior to bagged vacuums. Another is that a lot of their vacuums are cordless which is inferior to corded. The biggest issue with Shark is that they are poor quality, unrepairable, and have next to no parts availability. Plenty of us around here appreciate Kenmore. They make a solid budget vacuum. Looking for a quiet vac? Don't waste time on Consumer Reports
What kind of flooring do you have and what's your budget? I really like Consumer Reports, but like any rating system you have to take everything with a grain of salt. Their mission is to test the most popular and accessible vacuums because that's most likely what people will buy. Among their vacuum ratings I look for trends, all of the Shark or Dyson cordless vacuums only have average reliability and Consumer Reports is one of the few publications that warned people about how quickly all batteries have major problems. Purchase advice U.S.
For mixed carpets and hard floors you want a vacuum with a powered brushroll for the carpets and brushroll shutoff or a hard floor brush well for hard floors. The Miele Compact C1 Turbo Team scored poorly because turbo brushes are not good for lots of carpet or high pile carpets. Henry's face is optional but there are no electric powerheads for Henrys. There aren't many bagged canister vacuums with powerheads under $400. Your options are Kenmore and Prolux. There's the Kenmore 200 Series BC3060 $150 that's really a 400 Series and the Prolux TerraVac $269. Both have carpet powerheads, hepa bags, and hepa filters. BIFL options are: Zero G $679, Miele C1 Cat & Dog $789, Sebo K3 $849, and the upright Sebo Dart $549. More on reddit.com

November 5, 2025 - This model performs about as well as the Dyson V12, and it comes with a station that automatically empties the dustbin when the vacuum is docked. However, it struggles with fur. ... This model is not as nimble as our top picks, but it’s an excellent cleaner, it has a large dustbin, and it comes with several useful tools.

March 26, 2025 -

So, I look at this sub on occasion, and I see the consistent hyping of Sabo and Miele. Cool. I am thinking of replacing my current upright canister vacuum, and I checked in with Consumer Reports rankings, their top 3 bagged uprights are all Kenmore (Elite Pet Friendly 31150, BU1018, and Intuition BU4050) rated 77, 75, 74. Followed by 3 Oreck models (Elevate Command, Elevate Conquerer, and Elevate Control), rated 61, 61, and 54.

For bag-less uprights, they have the Shark PowerDetect AZ4002 at 82, then the Shark Navigator Professional NV360 at 78, and the Shark Stratos AZ3002 at 77. The Sebo Felix Premium rates a 66. The Miele Upright U1 Cat and Dog comes in at a 76, the maverick at 72, and the Twist at 72.

So, my question is why nobody on here seems to like Shark or Kenmore, and why did Wirecutter rank the Sebo so much higher? Is it just a function of Consumer Reports factoring in price relative to performance and the Sebo does marginally better but costs $600-$700, and the Shark and Kenmore costs $300-$450? Is it brand reliability and durability?

What accounts for the difference, and is it really that much of a difference in performance relative to price?

Edit: Since the moderator asked, I don’t really have a budget, and just want a quality product without overpaying. My floor type is hardwood over 2 floors, with area rugs in the living room, bedrooms, and hallways. There are 2 cats. I have a stick vacuum for the stairs, and a Roomba to get the dust/cat bunnies on a more regular basis.. I use the upright for deeper cleaning of the area rugs. I occasionally have a cleaning crew come in every 4-5 weeks to give the whole place a once over.
