Imagine the PRACTICALITY of living in this place. Imagine having to clean and dust 50 little glass globe lights hanging on plastic threads. Of having alllllllll that fucking cold, hard surface ECHO every last sound of those gaping vaulted, lofted, open-concept rooms. Of not being able to think when you're across the house because you can hear a pin drop from the other end. Imagine washing mirrors, and cleaning and recaulking the windows. Hell, imagine the sunlight beaming in off all those chromed edges and mirrors and blinding you. Of trying to dust that fucking staircase and the glass panels that will inevitably end up with fingerprints on them. Imagine the fucking utility costs to heat and air condition it, and not have a fucking coat closet or a place to take off your shoes within ten metres of the goddamn door. I think our current designing trends are shite. Colourless, bland, muted, boring, open, ridiculous spaces designed to look impressive from a specific photo lens, but lacking ANY real practicality for every day life. I have respect for designs that look interesting but FUNCTION. None of these photos are functioning spaces. THey are shit from too-spaced-out, low to the ground, too deep and armless sofas, to the ridiculous light fixtures, to the tasteless "art" on the walls, to the cavernously empty space that lacks storage, heat/cooling ability, cannot be cleaned or maintained easily. I know I will get downvoted to hell. I don't give a shite. I went to school with interior designers and the only good prof I had that really gave a shit about DESIGN WITH FUNCTION quit teaching in the interior design programme and moved to visual arts, which is why I had him. Furniture and spaces need to work every single day for years and years and years to be successful examples. Just because it "looks cool" does not make it a good design aesthetic. I loathe and abhor these designs. They are permanently BAD designs in my eyes, because they do not work for real people in real settings. More on reddit.com
