CPU and Case fans are usually controlled via BIOS (even non-PWM fans can usually be controlled) if your BIOS doesn't support it or you want finer control, you can get a fan controller. some of them have manual dials to control speeds, others are controlled via software. April 26, 2021 - If the fans are PWM compatible they can typically be controlled using BIOS temp/fan control. You can also do it with software but sometimes fan brand makes a difference ... A lot of motherboards support variable voltage fan speed control too.

  • CPU cooler : Noctua NH-D15

  • 3 x Arctic PWM PST 140mm (daisy-chained) as Front intake

  • 1 x Arctic PWM PST 140mm as Back exhaust

  • 1 x Arctic PWM PST 140mm as Top (back) exhaust

  • Case : NZXT H5 Flow

  • CPU : Ryzen 7800x3D

This works like a charm. As you can see, idling in Windows the fans barely spin and the CPU sits at a cool 40ยฐC. No noise!

I set the curves so that the case fans ramp up to max 60%, and the CPU fans to 100%. It does get a little bit more noisy then but still very bearable. CPU temp doesn't go beyond 80ยฐC even when running things like Cinebench, OCCT, etc.

I love this build and I love Fan Control!

Setting your GPU fan speed is pretty straightforward, and there are a number of software that can give you complete control: afterburner, precision and many others.

Is there an equivalent for CPU fan speed?

Hello,

back in the good old days I used the software called "SpeedFan" to control all my fan speeds, it was an awesome and easy to use and setup tool where you could define graphs with speeds and temperatures for all your sensors and link your fans to specific sensors (for example link a fan blowing through the sidedoor onto the GPU to the GPU temperature and obviously the fans on CPU cooler to CPU) and have them adjust the fans speeds accordingly to the devices temperature.

SpeedFan was discontinued though and I have changed to a software called Argus Monitor which really lacks ease of use, resets your settings every other update and is just way too expensive to maintain.

Are you guys just using the BIOS? Do you adjust stuff in there or do you use stock settings? I like my PC to be really quiet, so I'm trying to figure out what is the currently best way to control fan speeds.

I'm currently running my Noctua NH-D14 to cool a Ryzen 7 2700X on MSI X470 Gaming Plus with a 1080 and am looking to upgrade to i7 12700F + B660 DDR4 MB and a 3080.

Hello, last week I finished my first PC build.

I've noticed that my CPU cooler fans are annoyingly loud when I'm only on the desktop and the temperatures are only about 40-45ยฐC. My cooler is the Corsair H100i v2. I then downloaded the Corsair Link to make a custom fan speed curve, with the result that now the cooler is quiet when on desktop but it's not increasing it's speed enough when gaming, even though, for testing purposes I set the speed to 100% when the CPU reaches 50ยฐC.

Does anyone know a software that reliably changes the fan speed?

so i have a dell optiplex that i just slapped a gpu in and it works really well but my cpu has very high temps sometimes getting to 100c and i figured out why. it was my fans they where running pretty slow even at high temps so i went into bios and i could only find 1 setting related to fan speed and if i turn it on my fans will always run at MAX speed. it seriously sounded like the inside of a plane during take off so i was wondering if there is a way to have more control over my fan speeds or do i just have to have high cpu temps because how loud those fans where was genuinely concerning

I have an MSI B450 Tomahawk and be quiet silent wings 3 140mm PWM high-speed fans that are hooked up to the motherboard. How do I adjust the fan speeds? I tried looking for the MSI software for my motherboard but when I downloaded it, it said it wasn't for my motherboard. I would appreciate if anyone could point me towards the right software or any other solutions.

was looking for a software that would let me monitor all my fan speeds and change them if need be i saw a few posts from 2 to 3 years ago about hwinfo and fan control from gifthub and was wondering if they are still good programs and if so what one would be the better one.

also this is probably a dumb question but i also use afterburner to monitor my cpu temp and use it to auto my gpu fan speed if i had hwinfo or fan control would it cause issues with afterburner auto?

thanks for taking your time to answer my questions.

So I bought a bunch of these on Amazon

They spin way to fast and make to much noise. I have some pc building experience and know about pwm fans and such but have minimal electrical knowledge. How could I best control the speed on these things if at all? Diodes/resistor thingies soldering in the wires like pc fans? A dedicated speed control circuit?. I live in Europe and the fans make use of wall plugs.

Reddit deletes my post with links to these products so here are some specs:
The fans I bought on amazon: 230 V/50 Hz 8 watts
I found something on Aliexpress that looks to be useful the description is: "DC 1.8V-15V 2A 30W PWM Motor Speed Controller Regulator Low Voltage Fan Speed Control Switch PWM Adjustable Drive 5V 12V"
