I've done it using Gson (by Google).
Add the following line to your module's build.gradle:
dependencies {
// ...
// Note that `compile` will be deprecated. Use `implementation` instead.
// See https://stackoverflow.com/a/44409111 for more info
implementation 'com.google.code.gson:gson:2.8.2'
}

JSONArray jsonArray = (JSONArray)jsonObject;
if (jsonArray != null) {
int len = jsonArray.length();
for (int i=0;i<len;i++){
list.add(jsonArray.get(i).toString());
}
}
If you don't already have a JSONArray object, call
JSONArray jsonArray = new JSONArray(jsonArrayString);
Then simply loop through that, building your own array. This code assumes it's an array of strings, it shouldn't be hard to modify to suit your particular array structure.
List<String> list = new ArrayList<String>();
for (int i=0; i<jsonArray.length(); i++) {
list.add( jsonArray.getString(i) );
}
You can use this block of code to convert JSONArray to the arraylist object.
JSONArray jsonArray=new JSONArray();
arrayList=new ArrayList();
n=jsonArray.length();
for (int i=0;i<n;i++)
arrayList.add(jsonArray.get(i));
Happy coding!!
Internally this JsonArray implements list interface so type casting to List is perfectly fine. Moreover iterating each and every element will access list one by one which will be overhead(Performance impact).
If you need alternate way you can use toCollection static method from the same JsonArray class
It is not specified, which JSON parser do you use, so I suppose you can choose right now and I'll suggest using Gson as such.
The better solution for deserializing such a structures is creating a special class for each structure, for example:
public class NameURIPair {
private String name;
private String URI;
// getters
}
Then your JSON can be deserialized into a class, which holds the resulting List in it:
public class Data {
private List<NameURIPair> output;
// getter
}
// ...
Data data = new Gson(stringData, Data.class);
Since you've requested the other way, you still can get just the parsed JSON into JsonElement with JsonParser
JsonElement root = new JsonParser().parse(stringData);
Although I won't give you the full solution not to appreciate this kind of solutions :-)
Aazelix, your Json output seem to be missing opening array bracket. Its correct form is listed below:
{"output":[{"name":"Name3","URI":"Value3"},{"name":"Name5","URI":"Value5"},{"name":"Name4","URI":"Value4"}]}
As for the conversion to POJO
List<MyObj> list = new ArrayList<>();
if (outputs!= null) {
int len = outputs.length();
for (int i=0; i<len; i++) {
JSONObject o = (JSONObject) outputs.get(i);
list.add(new MyObj(o.getString('name'), o.getString('URL')));
}
}
System.out.println("There is " + list.size() + " objects.");
public static final class MyObj {
final String name;
final String url;
public MyObj(String name, String url) {
this.name = name;
this.url = url;
}
}
You've got two main issues. The first is that "videoID" and "videoId" are not the same string. So you're checking for a key that doesn't exist.
Your second problem is that the "videoId" key doesn't exist in the top level object, it's inside the "id" object, so you need to drill down an extra layer to get it:
JSONArray jsonArray = myResponse.getJSONArray("items");
ArrayList<String> list = new ArrayList<>();
for (int i = 0; i < jsonArray.length(); i++) {
try {
JSONObject json = jsonArray.getJSONObject(i);
JSONObject id = json.getJSONObject("id");
list.add(id.getString("videoId"));
} catch (JSONException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
System.out.println(list); // [ob1ogBV9_iE, o9vsXyrola4]
Try with correct case for videoId, like
list.add(json.getString("videoId"));
Simple example :
List<Model> data = new ArrayList<>();
JSONArray jsonArray = jsonObject.getJSONArray("data");
for (int i = 0; i < jsonArray.length(); i++) {
data.add(new Model(/*fill your data*/));
}
Move this before the for loop
ArrayList<OrderUser> listOrderUser = new ArrayList<OrderUser>();
Then simply add an item using, listOrderUser.add(<your_model_item>);
and after the for loop, do a notifyDataSetChanged(); on the recyclerView Adapter
Take a look at this tutorial. Also you can parse above json like :
JSONArray arr = new JSONArray(yourJSONresponse);
List<String> list = new ArrayList<String>();
for(int i = 0; i < arr.length(); i++){
list.add(arr.getJSONObject(i).getString("name"));
}
Simplest and correct code is:
public static String[] toStringArray(JSONArray array) {
if(array==null)
return new String[0];
String[] arr=new String[array.length()];
for(int i=0; i<arr.length; i++) {
arr[i]=array.optString(i);
}
return arr;
}
Using List<String> is not a good idea, as you know the length of the array.
Observe that it uses arr.length in for condition to avoid calling a method, i.e. array.length(), on each loop.
There are two problems with your code :
- First is that you are using a
getJsonArray()to get the array, which isn't part of Gson library, you need to use getAsJsonArray() method instead. - Second is that you are using
array.toString()which isn't obvious because for thefromJsonmethod you need ajsonArrayas parameter and notStringand that will cause you parse problems, just remove it.
And use the following code to convert your jsonArray to List<Noticia> :
Type type = new TypeToken<List<Noticia>>() {}.getType();
List<Noticia> lista = gson.fromJson(array, type);
And your whole code will be:
Gson gson = new Gson();
JSONArray array = obj.getAsJsonArray("result");
Type type = new TypeToken<List<Noticia>>() {}.getType();
List<Noticia> lista = gson.fromJson(array, type);
//testing - size = 2 but value Titulo is null
Log.i("LISTSIZE->", lista.size() +"");
for(Noticia n:lista){
Log.i("TITULO", n.getTitulo());
}
I think the problem could be something to do with toString() on JSONArray. But are you using obj.getAsJsonArray method?
Try this:
JSONArray arr = obj.getAsJsonArray("result");
Type listType = new TypeToken<List<Noticia>>() {
}.getType();
return new Gson().fromJson(arr , listType);
