TL;DW - Apparently MS Word converts pdf to docx by performing OCR on the file. Therefore, create a pdf with your images (you can do this with word -> save as -> pdf) and re-open with word. Another clever way of searching images/screenshots is to chuck them in OneNote, which has the option of searching text inside images. More on reddit.com

Not entirely sure what you're trying to do, couldn't you use a normal image editor? Photoshop if you have it or whatever else? If you need to do markups/edits on a PDF, grab the trial of Bluebeam Revu. I use it all day in the construction industry and it's rad for PDF manipulation. More on reddit.com
