3x21A - medium sized smooth reflector options, either single (SBT90.2) or triple (SST40, SFT40, GT) emitter setup. No handle included. Set up as a medium range thrower. 3x21B - medium sized orange peel reflector with triple Cree emitters. No handle included. Set up as a high output medium range flooder. 3x21C - small orange peel reflector with 7 emitters (SST40 or SFT40). Handle included. Not entirely sure what the use case for this one is. I would expect a pretty floody beam pattern. 3x21D - large smooth reflector with SBT90.2 emitter. Handle included. This is a long range thrower. 3x21E - small TIR optics with 12 519A emitters. Handle included. Basically just 3 D4Ks taped together. Use case varies depending on the angle of the optics. I'd say most people would want something like this set up for short range flood of high CRI light with the 30 or 60 degree beaded optic. Hello,

I recently bought an L21B from convoy, which appears to be a fantastic thrower from my 4 camping trips of use. I was hoping someone could explain the differences between the 3x21 series. They come in A, B, C, D, and E versions. Or if there is a resource that explain the difference that I’m missing please let me know. A has a large reflector. Think L21b sized The B has 3 leds under medium combined mild orange peel reflectors The 3x21C is like the B but 7 leds The convoy 3x21D is like the A, but has a larger reflector Simon's convoy 3x21E is the newest (1 or 2 months old), and has 3 sets of 4 smaller quad optics. I think the same, or maybe a tad larger than the d4v2 optics

Convoy’s 25A Buck driver is also listed in the product description so it may be an option for 3X21C. As in the title, but sell me on your best alternative. This is what i’m leaning towards but I know you guys are a wealth of experience.

I don’t have a real need for it. Likeliest use case is getting stupid at a camp site. Here’s what appeals to me:

-Stupid bright

-Decent sustained bright

-Mostly floody

-3 x 21700 — long run time

Nice but I could live without:

-on board charging

-power bank functionality

Skeptical of:

-cooling fans because i don’t want to hear my light.

Wish it had:

-Anduril 2

I’d go $200 without blinking. If it’s more than that I’d better believe I’m getting something pretty special.

I’ll start out by assuming you have a bunch of lights already, right? So… People don’t like the Ui. Personally I think it’s pretty damn good with step ramping. On > turbo > back to low. What more do you need? I have zero use for one , but I immediately bought this light. It is kingly. So I think you need one. However , if you’re truly looking to get steered away, I’ll assume you want something bonkers instead right, how about Emisar D4SV2 with the Lume driver and SFT-25? This is going to light up a camp site like crazy. Out of a box of lights including 3x21d this was my favourite while camping a couple weeks ago. Mine was not lume driver though it has 2ch fet joined driver. (Add the 21700 tube though and maybe you’re hitting 7000 lumen and 125kcd??)

Based on personal experiences, which one fared better? What did you like about your light?

I'm debating between sft40/sbt90.2 on either of these lights. I'm just not sure about runtime/efficiency on either of these LEDs for these units and how well the beam would work at say 600 meters for either. Real world use it'd be used to scan for animals afar, specifically night predators.

u/TacGriz reviewed the 4X18A with the SBT90.2, definitely worth a read. As far as runtime and efficiency goes, the SFT-40 will be significantly better. The SBT90.2 is an absolute monster but boy, does it go through batteries. I have one in a Wurkkos TS30S and it's impressive as hell, but honestly I think the SFT-40 is a more practical emitter in most cases. If you want some alternatives for long range, the Acebeam L19, Convoy L21B SFT-40, Noctigon K1, Manker U22 III, Thrunite Catapult Pro, and various options from Mateminco/Astrolux (see my guide ) are ones that I'm a fan of.

I asked which of the 4x18a SBT90 and Convoy L7 is better and one reply I got back was the L7 is superior. It will be my first SBT90 light. The 3x21A SFT40 has 3x emitters so it is more of a flooder, if you want to illuminate things at 600m, a thrower like the L7 is better. The L7 also has a buck driver which will be more efficient than the linear driver in the 4x18A.

I kinda want one I think, on paper it sounds like a throwy flood so curious how it compares to the sst40 version

I’d also be curious. I have a 3x21b (70.3) and I would describe it as a hybrid beam. I would assume that SFT40 would be a narrower beam than 70.3.

I have a T4 with the 219F @ 5700K and it has a lovely beam. Not sure about the tint mixing though.

Just got a 3x21a sft40. And it’s a monster of a light. I have an ace beam x45ii XHP 70.2 5000k. Was wondering if I should sell that for the new xhp 70.3 3x21b? Or is the 4x18a xhp70.2 similar in runtime/output to the x45ii?

How's the thermals on 3x21a sft-40? It's a lot of mass and batter for emitter so I imagine it must be pretty slow to heat up.

3x21 will have a longer run time than 4x18 since you have 3x 5,000 mah batteries instead of 4x 3,500 mah batteries.
