Go into BIOS Save the current config under 'Tools' just in case Restore the default config (it's called "optimized defaults") Hit F10 but nothing else!! Now, the BIOS will display what all the things are that the change to "optimized default" impacted. That's the list of things that you need to change back after a BIOS update. Take pictures of that list with your phone, page by page, and you have a comprehensive list that's MUCH easier to handle than crawling through all the BIOS pages. Enjoy! Is it possible to take a snapshot of the BIOS settings before upgrading the BIOS so that after updating I can just import a snapshot settings file and all my settings will be reverted back to as they where before upgrading?
At the moment before updating I go through every tab in the BIOS and take pictures with my phone, update the BIOS then have to manually go through every tab to put the settings back as they where.
My motherboard is a ROG Strix B550-E Gaming if that makes any difference.

there is a way to export the settings but from BIOS version to another, these settings might get the BIOS screwed to the point you have to clear it to defaults best way is still to take pictures

As the title says, I have been doing a lot of tweaking in my BIOS on my ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero, and now the thr=ough of something going wrong or a BIOS update resetting everything scares me.
other than documenting my settings on paper or via photos, is there a user profile setting where I can save my config to protect against resets?

If you can log into Windows, try the following as it worked for my on a 2023 Zenbook Get the AMIBIOS and APTIO Tools from https://www.ami.com/bios-uefi-utilities/ Run AFU backup.rom /O command (replace AFU with actual file name, like afuwinx64.exe or afudos.exe, depending on your system) to make current BIOS backup. I used AFUWINx64.exe. This creates a backup from BIOS.
