CoreCtrl - LinuxReviews
Seems your linuxreview needs an update is what I am getting at and I hope you do so since it works well for AMD users whose graphic cards are running at 0 fan speed up to 35c with the default radeon drivers and a max fan speed of around 50% as the defaults. My card was running at 88C with a max of 94. After using CoreCtrl It's down around 65 most of the time in games that use Cryengine and others it runs around 45 degrees generally.

r/linux4noobs on Reddit: Too noob to install CoreCtrl
April 7, 2024 -

Hi!

I know almost nothing about linux, what I know is thanks to SteamOS.

I've been researching how to undervolt my GPU on bazzite. I "only" need to install CoreCtrl and give it full control of AMD gpu but man I'm so overwhelmed. There's a lot of commands and even though the Gitlab site has an installation guide well. it is just guidance and they assme I have knowledge that I don't and it is not noob friendly, I have to edit something called GRUB bootloader which I don't even know how to find and there's no video guides to follow.

Maybe linux isn't just for me, I have this sensation I need to know a lot of programming just to do basic things as install software, Should I go back to Windows?. I'm happy with my SteamOS machine but I just wanted to undervolt my GPU (I also don't know how to do that and I will need to follow a guide or instructions) to keep temps a little bit lower and make sure they're always safe.

Thank you for reading.

December 14, 2024 -

I recently made the switch to as-rock 7900 XT Phantom Gaming and decided to give undervolting a try using CoreCtrl. After reading through the documentation on GitLab and watching a few tutorial videos, it seemed pretty straightforward.

I set the voltage offset to -95mV, adjusted my min/max GPU clocks, and left the memory settings untouched. I also cranked the power limit to the max.

Before the undervolt, I was getting around 70 FPS @ 1440p Ultra in Cyberpunk, with power draw peaking up to 330 watts and temperatures hovering around 68-70°C. After the undervolt, I’m still hitting the same FPS, but the card now draws between 150-200 watts, with temps staying around 55-60°C.

Is it really this easy? Would love to hear if anyone has additional tips or tricks for further optimizing my setup!
