Look at Tom's 8700k review. That's pretty dang good for an 8700k. In any case the Hydro Pro's are decent, with upgraded fans I imagine they could keep up with the better AIO's. Probably won't beat the older... ... You don't need to touch it at all. I use the h115i and its amazing (upgraded from h100i). The h150i is not better though in terms of cooling.

My cooler is a good 5yrs old and it seems that my temps have risen. I've seen people remove the copper plate and refill from there, but just wondering what this thing is.

I've taken a few versions of these apart, just never the fill screw. I never had a funnel that small to utilize it. The copper fins on the inside of the unit tend to get gummed up easily as the coolant escapes and/or evaporates and thickens + corrosion or sometimes even particles from the rubber gasket breaking down. I found cleaning it thoroughly and then adding new coolant as needed and some silicone grease on the rubber gasket ring can extend the life of the unit. Check youtube for proper disassembly of your specific unit.

If you do go the new cooler route, I'd suggest looking at the Alphacool Eisbaer series. They're uglier (imo) than the Corsair units, but offer one big advantage: being able to take out, refill, switch out components as needed.

I'm looking to replace an EVGA two-fan AIO cooler that dried out and overheated a server, and saw the H150i ... looks good.
However, I see a lot where Corsair mentions controlling it via Windows software, and some reviews mentioning it may not work without that software... so, some questions-
I'm a Linux user. I'm hoping this unit can simply be plugged in and do the right thing, based on temperature -- that it will run the pump and fans correctly, without needing to be control by an app
Can the fluids be topped-off? I see in photos that there's what looks like a large-ish plug screw head on its said (more than my EVGA AIO cooler had... sad LOL is sad)
Does it detect when fluids are low?
I don't need RGB, this is a compute server running a 5-series and some GPUs, sits in an air conditioned closet where nobody will see it. Just want max heat exchange, please!!

You can plug the USB into a Windows PC, set the hardware settings (curve/lighting), save and then use without any software if you want. AIOs are designed to not need coolant* topped off for 5-7 years. Technically you can with a syringe but not really. No low fluid detection. Not a feature that exists in AIO yet. A 360 will permeate a lot less than a 240 though just by nature of running at a lower temp.

Answering my own questions- liquidctl is a fan control project for *nix OSes. It's even available as a plugin on my distro (unraid). I see evidence that people are refilling the the H1xxi series, e.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmods/comments/9p18fu/refilling_corsair_h100i_v2/ Don't yet know. I should've set a temperature threshold alarm on netdata , but I was suffering under an abundance of optimism, and a paucity of wisdom.

I've got an 18 month old H150i elite capellix xt in my i9 13900k based system. It started making funny noises on Thursday.
See video (either around 10 seconds or 60 seconds depending on whether it trimmed properly!)
Having stopped the fans in turn, the only thing it left was the AIO. So I ordered a new one, which I fitted today.
On removing the old radiator, it was clear that it was far from full of coolant - I'd say half full, if that. You could hear it flow through the system as you tilted it.
So the question is, how, after only 18 months, have I lost coolant from a sealed unit? And as concerning - where has it gone?! No obvious songs of liquid in the system but its not in the radiator any more so...??
And surely I should get more than 18 months out of this???

It is supposed to last longer than 18 months and the warranty is your guarantee for that. All AIOs will lose some fluid over time and the hoses are not impermeable. You may hear some sloshing in the old unit, but at half full it would not be able to create the fluid pressure needed to get the water around and you'd hear a very different, grinding, chugging kind of noise. Those static pops are usually tiny air bubbles. Can happen if you've been moving things around (case or AIO). If you haven't and in combination with any noticeable fluid loss, you should look hard for traces of coolant in the system. The most common places to leak are at the block insertion points and the again where the tubes connect to the radiator. Much less common is the radiator itself, but it is possible and would likely leave white or yellow stains at that origin.

Unfortunately the laws of nature will do this (won’t go into detail because someone already did); but my personal recommendation is that yes, this is EXTREMELY annoying, and while I didn’t see any massive temp spikes just from the video, you can a) ignore and watch cpu temps, or b) contact Corsair and get an RMA. I’d go with B since you’ve only had this for a year and a half, and that sound is just pure annoying
