Hi,
I wanted to discuss iCUE related software with you all, as now that I've tried other brands I came to realize that nothing is truly perfect and that the neighbor's grass isn't really greener.
I've had a full Corsair eco system for around 5 years, including case, fans, keyboard, mouse and even a few other things like mouse pads. When everything worked it was great. However I always had weird issues with iCUE: it uninstalled itself multiple times, the default fan curves didn't work (creating a custom one did work), some fans led's started misbehaving (I never RMA'd them for the hassle, and sometimes they went back to working well again by themselves).. So when the opportunity came to make a new build, I was very excited to leave Corsair and move to a different brand. That turned out HORRIBLY.
I went with the most popular brand these days (Taiwanese) that has some really cool aesthetics. First thing I noticed was that their software UI was quite outdated compared to iCUE, but whatever - no big deal. As long as it works I'm happy. Then a week passed and the issues started. I'm still to this day not sure exactly what happened (seems like their software automatically tried to firmware update the fans and it failed midway) - but suddenly all 7 of my fans started having issues at random. Nothing I did to troubleshoot it worked, and after filtering out the front page that's full of pics posts in their subreddit and looking for people with issues - I've suddenly realized that there were TONS of people experiencing issues, and saying how bad the software and RMA customer service is. You just had to look past all the cool pic posts.
I tried to RMA them, which they accepted fairly quickly because apparently the fans going crazy from a random automatic firmware update is a thing that happens.. and it took 3 months from them authorizing it to shipping it out. Yep, you heard that right; 3 months from acceptance of RMA until they finally shipped the new hardware (+ a few weeks for shipping). I live in NA. During that time they also didn't reply to my emails. I had such a horrible experience that I ended up just selling the whole thing and making a new build now.
So where does that leave us? I can try a different company, but there really aren't many that do AIOs and fans at the same time, and we know that all of the big Motherboard companies have very bad reputation and issues with their software (Armory crate anyone?).
So there's really not much left. Reading the megathread here wasn't easy - people are complaining about the titan AIO and LX fans with iCUE, which is the build I'm going to go for. And the self uninstalling thing is still an issue. But there's really no other better option. All I can do is maybe pay a bit extra for a geek squad protection through Best Buy and hope that if anything happens that I can just go to the local branch and have it immediately replaced.
So yeah, just wanted you to know that there's really no perfect solution out there.. and I'm back to Corsair
I just want to turn off RGB and update firmware to latest version. Do I need to install iCue for that? I heard so many bad things about that bloatware program. For example Razer has a seperate tool just for firmware update, no need to install Razer Synapse. Only wireless headsets, not wired.
I have a Corsair Void USB headset which is getting a bit old now, and I've reseted my pc several times now. The problem is that the new Corsair software isn't compatible with the new software, and I can't find the old version. It feels like they just gave up on people using older hardware.
